I went with the BF and some other friends, and it was amazing. The injokes were hillarious (If you had a keen eye, you would've noticed at least an X-Men Reference, along with the fantastic scene where ).
I thought they had a great mix of action, comedy and drama, with major foreshadowing for future movies (as someone else has mentioned, The Ten Rings hints that a favorite villain is waiting in the wings, and I got the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Engagement and Logistics Division the first time they mentioned it, and inappropriate laughter came out, which led to me being stared at.
I would say it's tied for the third best comic book film with Batman Begins. It was a great movie but I would put SpiderMan 2 and Sin City ahead of it.
Regardless, Iron Man was some of the most fun I've had at the theater in a long time.
I'm hoping the new Hulk film turns out well too.
Just a little nitpick, iirc Sin City is a Graphic Novel series. There is a subtle but definite difference, generally the story's length, how it is presented and the creative process. A movie made from a Graphic Novel can be closer to the original as there is usually more background/character/universe development in long-running comics.

I'm hoping to go see Iron Man soon, I like to wait a couple of weeks until the buzz calms down a little.
So another super hero movie was released that is actually good? I'm getting tired of Hollywood turning every comic into a movie that's a box office piece of shit.
I'm trying to go see this one though because most of you, along with many others, have actually decided this is a good one.

Yes and no... the most common printings were the graphic novels, but Dark Horse initially released most of them as one shot comic series.
I do agree though that there is a difference between a one shot like that and a long running comic franchise.
It is nitpicky, but I can understand if people don't consider Sin City, 300 or Ghost World to be actual comic book movies. I tend to lump the genre together though.

Aren't we all?
Hollywood is running out of ideas. They're making movies from books as well. Some were good, like the Lord of the Rings movies (a friend of mine didn't like the second one, however, since it apparently didn't follow the book very well), but some were awful like Eragon. Truth be told, when an idea gets popular, it's difficult if not impossible to make a similar idea, since it'll be simply dismissed as a "copy" of the more popular version.
But back on topic, I've yet to see Iron Man. I'll totally go see it when I get the chance.
Oh my goodness, books have been made into movies since the beginning of the industry! Ben Hur, Cleopatra, Gone With the Wind, To Kill a Mockingbird, and on and on. The problem with todays renditions is that so many are done so poorly.

Thanks for that, TheGrandMom. Hollywood has been turning nearly anything popular it can get its hands on into movies since it inception, as well as making half a million shitty remakes (how many versions of The Maltese Falcon are there?) and people seem offended when you tell them this. They want the current culture to be the derivative one.
The main reason it seems worse now is that so many more movies are being made now.
At the same time though, producers and directors used to have to try a lot harder too. Prior to the 80s and 90s, you couldn't make a crappy movie and hope it did well in the home video markets. Back then, if a studio made a couple crappy movies, they went under but now studios are releasing movies straight to dvd. Disney is a great example of this. There wasn't a sequel to an animated Disney film until the home video markets opened up and now it seems like every one of their animated films has at least 1 if not 5 sequels.
/sigh And we keep getting bilked out of our hard earned cash. Basically what I've done in my life is have a nice setup at home for watching movies and then be VERY picky about what I go to the theatres to see. I usually will go see action movies, sci-fi movies, or mainly any movie that shows better on the big screen (i.e. special effects). But not all of these type of movies because, as of late, there seem to be a glut of them at the theatre. I always watch a trailer before going and usually a trailer that is put out near the release of the movie. I try to tell by the trailer if the movie will have any substance and glean some idea about the actors performances. (After seen RDJ doing Stark in a trailer, I knew that I had to go see this one.) $20 for 2 people with no food or drink is a lot of money to throw away on bad movies.....but it seems to be happening a lot lately. The golden age of movies is looooooong gone.

There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,
but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence
transform a yellow spot into the sun.

He wasnt referring to where it was shot... hes talking about the whole movie making industry. These days they are grabbing everything they can to make into movies and if it makes any kind of profit, they will make another and another and another until that cash cow can no longer be milked.
Now, some movies are so good that its practically mandatory for them to make a sequel. X-Men, Spiderman, Transformers, etc. All were very nicely done and thus they are making multiple movies. Its when they take a book, a TV show, a comic, etc and make a shitty big screen version of it is when people who follow the original get upset.
I go into every comic book movie and judge it on 2 things:
1) Did it stay true to the original? The movie doesnt have to go word for word on every detail to stay true to the original. As long as the characters are the same, the spirit and persona of every character is the same, and it follows the same direction of the original -- then your good by me!
2) If you had no clue about the original, would you still enjoy it? My wife doesnt read comics or watch cartoons. She doesnt know the history of any of these super hero movies. So would someone like her enjoy it? Take it for what its worth! If its enjoyable, fun to watch, and doesnt leave you feeling confused because you have no knowledge of the original it based on... then your good by me!
AS FOR IRON MAN.... I loved it! Ive seen in 3 times so far ... and im going for a 4th!!! AND NO ONE CAN STOP ME!!!! HAHAHAHA!!! lol
