I admit it: I'm not always up-to-date on newsworthy occurrences. I didn't find out about the Writers Guild of America being on strike until last night when some people in my LS were talking about it.

Now that I know about that, it makes sense why Heroes seems so rushed right now. I kept seeing the commericals referring to the final episode coming up, when they've barely broadcast half of a season's worth so far.

Anyone else noticed the impact of this strike on their favorite shows?

I'm glad they are on strike. My mom is a writer and she used to write for Roseanne or w/e along with the short lived tv shoe Tom with tom arnold. the litteraly get pennies on the dvd sales of broadcasting rights. Dont be surprised if the next strike you see is with the movie writers. i think they get 2 cents of each dvd sold of the movie.

Back to the point at hand, the networks are gonna hold out a long ass time b/c they believe they can go without writers with two words.....reality shows. Watch and see how many new reality shows come out in the next 3-6 months on the major networks. My mom said they are kinda screwed b/c the networks can live straight off the reality shows for a long time when some of these writers has no other source of income.

I think they're in the right for going on strike, but the quality of some shows has declined as a result. The last episode of Family Guy, for example, was completed without Seth McFarlane's input, and it showed.

24 won't be airing this season as a result, and Heroes, The Simpsons, Grey's Anatomy, The Office, and other shows are being ended early.

South Park's pretty much the only show out there that guarantees continued quality, since the writers aren't a part of the guild.

It's a shame really, that the networks would rather try to wing it with re-runs and reality shows than give the writers the 2-3 cents per episode download they're asking for. They're trying to hold out long enough without the writers to the point where they'll need to return to work and give up, but I give them more credit. As long as they continue to resist, no one wins except for the corporate fatasses.

People actually watch Late Nite with Carson Daly? I turn my TV off right after Conan and not because it's late.

Edit: I usually watch Jay leno then conan then usually Jimmy Kimmel or Craig Ferguson all shows are just hilarious.

I'd personally which we can just go back to the 80's-90's era of tv back when it had quaility and reality shows weren't heard of, hesh, with all the syndication, reality tv and 'fantastic' 'new' shows on only time i turn on the tv is for adult swim, Star Trek Voyager reruns, CSI and Toonami <.<
I shudder to fear a level of movies if that industry follows tv network producers.....

You dont need to go back in time, you just need Cartoon Planet and FX (or whatever channel that shows old crap).

They need to allow cable subscribers to have a la carte programming. As much as I love hispanic people, I really dont have any use for the 15 some odd spanish channels.

It very well may. Again, my mom has a script thats been kicked around for a bit for a movie and they said that if the tv writers get a bigger cut then you know the movie writers are gonna be right behind it.

That shouldn't last as long as this one b/c they don't have the "fall back" of reality shows to go with. But they DO have little known writers trying to make a name for themselves in Hollywood so if the movie strike happens and lasts awhile, expect really shitty movies.

That is actually more expnsive to each customer. I'll put up some info about how and why when I get home from work.....at Comcast.

Oh, I wouldnt doubt it being more expensive but I'd like to have that option.
Like I could get a basic programming package, your typical channel 2-45 or whatever. Then from there, just pick and choose the things I want.
