  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows discussion thread (MAJOR SPOILERS, DUH)

I figured with what's probably one of the most highly anticipated books of all time coming out tonight, we should have a thread for people to discuss it. I personally won't be checking in here until I'm done reading, and I'd advise anyone else not to if they don't want to be spoiled. Nobody is going to bother using spoiler tags EACH AND EVERY POST, so just consider the ENTIRE THREAD spoiler theater.

I don't know... We were promised a twist right? So what is Snape is actually a good guy? I mean, honestly think of the situation if you were in his place:

Dumbledore is poisioned, dying, and surrounded by a lot of Death Eaters. Do you:

          a) Attempt to heal him and have the Death Eaters kill you.
          b) Attempt to kill the Death Eaters and have the remaining Death Eaters kill you.
          c) Kill Dumbledore as an act of mercy and so you can continue plotting against Voldemort inside his inner circle.

I duno, mabye I have been reading to much Terry Brooks. It is rather complex for a children's book... then again, it kinda makes sence... but I have been reading alot of Terry lately and he likes to do stuff like that...

I still don't see why people go crazy for Harry Potter. I don't think he could get any fruitier unless he tried to hold my hand. I've seen a few of the movies and the magic words and wands are straight out a children's bed time story.

Yeah my thoughts as well, but everyone has gone "Potter" over it. See thuis BBC news articled here

To sum up and info from the papers I read this morning....

325million copies sold about 60% by mail order i.e. from amazon etc.

Amazon.co.uk sold 2.2m copies in just preorders.

Our mail service Royal mail has had to bring in extra staff to deliver the 600,000 books posted to arrive this morning, and had to put on a whole mail train and 22 extra lorries to cope with it.

In London people qued for 3 days, and considering all hell has happened here in teh Uk with severe storms and major flooding, they still waitied just to get the book when it was first released and be the first person to read it... Sad.

I don;t get this be first culture, if there is somethign I want I'll get it but I wouldn;t care if I had to wait a few days for it, there re more things in life...

The last paragraph sums it up....

"I've been talking to my friends about Harry Potter theories for so long, and I'm not going to be able to do that anymore. What will I do with my life?"

My answer would be.... "GET ONE!!!"

I might end up picking up this book one day out of curiosity... I gave up on the 5th book because it was too, too long. There was so much detail, to a point of utter boredom. Rowling would spend several pages describing something I really didn't care about, and then move on to the story. It took me so long to read through the fluff, I forgot what I was waiting for in the first place.

So I haven't read the 6th either, and here comes the 7th. Have fun, readers, and really, why are you here in this forum reading about the book!?!??!?!? GO READ THE BOOK YOU SPOILER SEEKER!!!!!!!!!!

I just finished the book. It was pretty dang good, and I'm satisfied with the way the series ended.

I'm of the opinion that people who can't appreciate the world of Harry Potter are dead inside. But that's just me being mean, really.

I think i will stick to the book I'm reading at the moment, much more interesting, with good adult humour, sci fi excellence, sex and blood and gore.
