Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows discussion thread (MAJOR SPOILERS, DUH)

I've actually never played any of the HP games; I've never been much of a fan of games based on liscenses from books/movies and whatnot. If anything, though, they could set it up much like any of the LOTR games, at least the mass combat parts, for the siege. Before that, tho, it's gonna be pretty boring a game of hide and seek from the Death Eaters (expect LOTS of cutscenes during this time frame lol).
Which is why I was talking about the original HP video game. Pick it up sometime for 5-10$ if you see it, see what i'm talking about lol. It felt like almost NOTHING in the game had to do with the story.

I think it shows how much Dumbledore had declined by book 5.
Yeah, but you have to give him credit, the man's like 150 years old when Harry first goes to Hogwarts.

think this was probably a big reason why she killed Dumbledore in 6, he had to start doing things on his own and he did well.
I hadn't thought about this, and you have a good point, but it still felt like half the damn novel was "Dumbledore Dumbledore Dumbledore"

It almost feels like it made more of a point of making a mystery about Dumbledore than it did a mystery about anything else.

Honestly, after the way book 6 ended, I expected them not to spend much time at Hogwarts. I mean, how could they? You can't just slip some hiding from the forces of evil and hunting down pieces of the Dark Lord's soul in between classes or while on holiday.

Hermione must have really hated missing her final year of school tho.

I completely missed that train of thought, honestly. She still managed to do her fair share of research and "school work", just not as much as she'd like.

I'd imagine Hogwarts would have let the three of them make up for their finals, either that, or they took the whole "defeat the Wizarding world's biggest nemesis and save Hogwarts from a siege" thing as the finals for them (and any other remaining students/survivors). That seems more likely; I can hardly see this scene happening:

<McGonagall> Thank you Harry for saving everyone from Voldemort
        <McGonagall> We owe you everything
        <Harry> np
<McGonagall> Oh, btw, you gotta take yur finals
        <Harry> wut?
<McGonagall> Yeah, you've got 2 days to study. see ya lolz

Being given credit for doing something when you were looking forward to doing something else isn't always an even trade off, emotionally. That's all I'm saying.

If she does continue it, would like to see McGonagall as headmaster. How many aurors that we've met are even left?
Mad-Eye and Tonks are both dead, I can only think of the two that took the Dursleys (assuming they were aurors and not just random people with the OotP) and maybe one other and can't remember anyone's name atm.

Feba, I think she kept throwing in that he might be alive, simply because a lot of people thought, myself included, that he might not be dead. Though, after the first hundred or so pages, the only part of me that still believed it might be was the tiny voice that just wanted to believe it could be true. After a while I just figured somehow he was seeing Dumbledore's eyes in the mirror because somehow he was helping them from the other side. Speaking of students growing up, I liked how Neville came into his own w/o Ron, Harry, and Hermione there. He was forced to do things for himself and really turned into a great wizard. She did a wonderful job of really showing that all of them had grown up and were ready to be full wizards.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I really enjoyed this book. Closed everything up nicely. Would always like her to do some more, but I can see it being difficult to come up with dangers that match the greatest evil wizard ever. I just have no idea how they could turn this one into a movie. There's a lot of them just sitting in the tent talking things out, not the action sort of thing you want in a movie, but those parts of the book really pushed the story along and is where they grew and learned the most. Ofcourse I heard they dropped a lot for the 5th movie, too. Still need to go see it, heard its still pretty good, as far as movies from books go.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows discussion thread (MAJOR SPOILERS, DUH)

I'd like to see the story continued, but not in the way everyone else would like.

Like Tolkein, Howard, Roddenberry, and Lucas before her, Rowling has created an entire magical world, rife with it's own history, subtle(and glaring) nuances in geographical locations, and millions of disparate personalities. A very rich expanded universe that she can touch upon without ever revisiting the lives of Harry, Ron, Hermione, or anyone at Hogwarts, ever again. What happens after the Wizard World Order is shifted? Will wizards start to seek reconciliation with other magical beings(Goblins, Centaurs, Giants, Elves, etc)? What goes on at Beauxbatons? At Durmstrang? Is there a western wizarding school?

These are examples of stories that could all be fleshed out, without having to return to Harry and co, who I rather think have earned their rest. I rather like to end the story with him, thinking he went on to be an accomplished Auror or, more to my liking, a champion Seeker.

One thing I would like to know for sure... how pissed off little Griphook was when he found Gryffindor's sword slipped from his possession... XD

I'm odd - I don't want to see any more HP books. I think any more would just be drawing it out. I enjoyed the books, but I don't think they could stand anymore - she was at points stretching it out. Ah well.

I tend to think that Rowling was rather restraining herself at points, especially in the seventh book. I get the sense that there could easily have been another 300 pages of material.

Im sad the series has ended, would gladly ready more of the HP world if she wrote them.

The final book was amazing imo. But im not as critcal as most, as long as its a good read and I'm absorbed.

Personally, I don't really feel she could write another story without just milking it.

She could probably release a Harry Potter Encyclopedia type thing, she's talked about it before, and heaven knows people would snatch it up.

My only regret with respect to Deathly Hallows was never seeing that bitch Rita Skeeter getting her just desserts, and I'd kind of hoped Bellatrix would have lived just long enough to watch her precious Voldemort take his final dirt nap, that would have been such sweet justice.

Seeing Rita get screwed would've been nice.

Is it just me, though, or did Rowling not live up to what she was saying? Someone who had never done magic before, doing it in late life under desperate circumstances? I also remember her saying something about someone getting date raped, and some other stuff that was supposed to happen that never seemed to.
