  • The end of an Era

    To those sci-fi geeks... can you believe it's actually been just short of 10 years for Stargate SG-1? The TV series, which started on July 27, 1997, aired the last episode of the season today, for a total of 214 episodes.

    The entire series has spawned an entirely new universe, including 2 movies, Stargate: The Ark of Truth and Stargate: Continuum (which are going to be released straight to DVD sometime this Fall), a Stargate SG-1 Roleplaying Game, Stargate Trading Card Game, Stargate Worlds (an MMORPG), Stargate SG-1: The Alliance (a video game which was canceled early 2006), and Stargate: Sorce (a Halflife 2 Mod also canceled due to studio requests). It also spawned the well known side-story TV series, Stargate: Atlantis, a comic book series published by Avatar Press, and an animated Stargate series, Stargate Infinity (which isn't considered canon in the Stargate Universe).

    All of this based off one movie in 1994, which grossed only $71.5 million at the US box office, and $196 million worldwide. As comparison, this was the same year that the Lion King, Forrest Gump, True Lies, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, and Speed were released. The least-grossing of these movies (Dumb and Dumber) took $127 million US and $246 million worldwide.

    So, the big question: what do you think about how the final episode was handled, or the series in general, for one of the longest-running sci-fi TV shows?

    Er? You mean to tell me that show was still on-going until recently? >_> <_<

    yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
    Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
    leaving no trace in the water.

      Teal'c is real old now, and that's it? I hope the next series is worth watching.

        Dak: older than you think you know. According to some history, Teal'c said he was 101 back in season 4. That puts him at 107 at the BEGINNING of the last episode. I would say... 180-190 after?

        I also have DoB's on the rest of SG-1, which is really freaky.

        Jack was born Oct 20, 1952
        Daniel July 8, 1965
        Sam Dec 29, 1968.
        Cam sometime in 1970.

        Vala... obviously unknown. Probably early 1900s.

          Re: The end of an Era

          Well, after he removed his symbiote with the Dratonin(sp?) he should have begun aging like any normal person, right? He didn't really seem any older, except for that white streak across one side of his head. It's all cool, though. I missed the second half of Atlantis so I have to stay up to catch it again.

          How about that Painkiller Jane? I want to see those two do it, but without the handcuffs.

            Tretonin, and all that is is basically liquefied symbiont. If you saw the episode that got introduced, it's all explained there.

            Atlantis really isn't extremely intertwined with SG-1, though... the first season of Atlantis was, yes, but it's been more and more independent for obvious reasons.

            As far as Painkiller... meh. I don't really care about it very much.

                Yeah, I know about the UK airing... they get all the best shows first ;;

                And -- this is the last episode Wier is appearing for Atlantis. And, if you saw the trailers for next season, it looks like Carter has the red uniform, which is generally held for authority-type positions...
