Re: Spidey Shatters Records With $148M

Cartoon is a huge field. Say, Bugs Bunny VS Berserk. Not really fair to just call the whole thing as 1 cartoon : /

Venom doesn't really get the respect he deserve. I am not a big spider-man fan myself and only knew about Venom from Marvel VS Capcom games which I totally loved Venom. Many said Spidey VS Venom deserve its own full movie and I totally aggree.

Venom voice in the film was just horrible.

Well, I never would have thought that they would include Venom in the movies in the first place. I remember saying, when there were only rumors of Spidey 2 being made, that they wouldn't bother trying to bring Venom in because his story/origin was too far out.

The first 2 SMs were fairly believable, with the "science" of the characters being brought up to date with current technology, just to make it seem a teeny bit more plausible. But alien turd coming from outer space just seemed a little "too" farfetched.

They handled it fairly well. They tried not to get into too much detail about the black crud. And anybody notice, nobody ever muttered the word "Venom" even once?

Wait, lemme get this straight. An extraterrestrial parasite is more unbelievable to you than a man falling into a "particle physics test" (which is for some unfathomable reason within close proximity of the public, protected only by a basic fence, supposedly doing tests on a bunch of sand, in other words, not at all believable "science") turns said man's entire molecular structure into sand and yet somehow this man manages to retain the semblance of life, coherency, can control his sand constituency, create pigmentation, see through eyes made of sand and so on and so forth?

The "science" of venom was for the most part entirely sound, since parasitic organisms are known to sometimes influence their host's behavior (certain fungi have rather disturbing amounts of control over their ant hosts), the possibility of extraterrestrial life is distinct and given enough resilience or an unusual biology (which is likely given its extraterrestrial nature) could quite well end up surviving a meteorite ride/impact. It's speculative, yes, but scientifically sound even if its actual occurence is unlikely.

Oh yeah, and I really enjoyed it. I thought it'd get cramped with three villains, but they pulled it off pretty well. Definitely a fun experience.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. The answer to that question/paragraph is "Hell no." I was talking about in comparison to Green Goblin (equal doses performance enhancers and schizophrenia) and Dr. Octopus (robotic arms). Those two sound pretty plausible compared to alien crap that makes you into a monster.

Oh no, Sandman always seemed really farfetched to me as well. And not very cool (I liked him in the film though). I mean, that's Fantastic 4 territory there. But honestly, after the first film came out, I wasn't exactly hearing people clamour for Sandman to show up. So it's not like I had to make a point of how bizzare he was.

I thought they would bring in some other villain that was as old as the hills again, at least from the Sinister 6 circle of goons. Honestly, it was looking like they were going to pop the Lizard in there somewhere with all the Dr. Conners face-time in part 2.

As a matter of fact, I can't think of any other Spidey villains that were as normal as Doc Ock and Gobbie to keep drawing off of (apart from Harry), which is probably why they went for broke this time. Like "Ah hell, what other villain has even a shred of believability about them? Kraven? Who is that? No others? Crap, ok, toss in Sandman and Venom then."

Also, after talking to my friends that have seen it, they all whine about Venom only showing up in the last 20 minutes or so. If you look at a universe as old as Spidey's is now, Venom has been around for only about, what, 15 years? 20 minutes sounds about right.

Gotcha. You just confused me when you chose Venom (or rather, the parasite) as an example. Now I know why. Thanks for the clarification.

                  About its flaws

When Bruce Campbell showed up and spoke his first line I was laughing my head off, if only because I knew it was a perfect role for him. Only person better would have been a younger John Cleese.

                            No, no they did not.

I won't say the entire movie was bad, but Venom was done quite poorly.

I love Topher Grace, but he himself admited he wasn't right to play Eddie Brock. But that's passable, because Raimi might have wanted to reflect a "reverse Peter Parker".

Anyway, why-oh-why does Venom say "I" and instead of "we". How could you mess up something so simple? The director doesn't like Venom, so I guess it isn't to be much a surprised.

Well the organism also notably doesn't manifest telepathy. I get the impression that the parasite in Spiderman 3 is not sentient. I think it was purposefully missed, not messed up. Though this may very well offend your Venom-fan sensibilities even more
