srsly... shake the children's stigmata?! since when was the classic forms a stigma? lets not forget this IS a cartoon. you will not ever be able to break that. why dont we make a pokemon drama love story next? please....

Though I can't get into the link you provided, if it's related to the TF movie I more then likely already seen it. I'm on my work com and they block a lot of sites.

Also, this isn't a cartoon, it's a Live action film that's aiming for a PG-13 rating. Transformers have *always* been a toy first and a cartoon about the toys second, and as such has *always* been directly aimed at children. The original movie was more mature then the series, but it was still nothing more then an 80 minute toy commecial featuring Hasbro's new line of figures. Even the ones who weren't outright killed in the film were never seen again in the show, save for prime who returned by popular demand, as they wanted to sell their new stuff.

It's easy to make this into a film that adults will enjoy, just make the story more gritty and well thought out, the characters more realistic instead of the oneliner stereotypical characters they were in the show and make sure there is tons of impressive and explosive action in it.

When the announcement trailer was shown in theaters, people *laughed* at it. Now that the teaser trailer is out, people see it's not the same walking bricks they remember from when they were kids and that this is a serious flick. This film is directly competeing with the Simpsons, FF 2, Hulk 2, Spiderman 3, Die Hard 4 *and* the new Harry Potter movie. For it to be successful it *has* to have some edge to it and it has to be attractive to more then just kids and the fandom. The reason why Spiderman, Xmen, Batman Begins and the LoTR trilogy were successful is because they were aimed at an older audience. They were deep, fun, action packed films that could draw in both old and young, and Transformers needs to do the same.

The only thing about Michael Bay is is ability to make things go Boom, hes very good at that, however the guy who wrote the screenplay wanted tomake sure, the movie was more realistic in form. In cartoon you could make things do unbelievable things. In movie form they may still be unbelievable but people want some realism added in there.
Honestly If robots in real life transformed those parts have to go somewhere. So this movie takes advantage of that. Also they are adding in lots of Beastwars/machines elements into this movie. The All-Spark, Protoforms, Organic looking shapes etc. It's shaping up to be pretty decent, but we need to wait for the finished product .

I personally loved the beast era of transformers, it made them seem more real.

yea, i meant the originals were cartoons/toys. my fault on the clarity.

there's plenty of deep meaningful themes and concepts in transformers. its not just all lasers and melee.
i dont know where you got the everyone laughed at the first trailer part but i know a lot of us were very very excited about it.

yea it is easy but that doesnt mean you have to change the foundation of the story/characters. you know they could have kept the original looks and everything be fine. the tone of the movie does not come from the aesthetics, it comes from the script and story line. you want a more mature and deep movie? write a great script. dont make predator looking alien jets.

if ANYTHING, michael bay is known for the onliner stereotypical bullshit. he is the king of ordinary. all of his movies are predictable and trite. dont blame the originals for being one dimensional given the fact that they were written on 15+ years ago, blame the lackluster, visionless twat that is michael bay.

Looks interesting. I'll see it just because its Transformers, but try to keep in the back of my mind that this is the same guy who turned a movie about Pearl Harbor into a crappy love triangle movie.

As for the beast era of TF.... Beast Wars was great.

*Fans* were excited, but many 'average joe' type people did laugh and thought it was going to be just another kids movie. Oh and many many long time fans loved the designs. I was never 'disgusted' by what I saw and i've been a fan of TFs since they came out. As far as I'm concerned Prime, BB, Jazz, Blackout and Barricade look freaking awesome. And even if I don't like them, there are long time TF fans that think Ratchet, Megs and SS look great.

The orginal looks would never work in a serious film. That said, if looks don't affect the tone of the film, how would it be better to use the original, mechanically impossible, toy inspired designs?

The originals wouldnt work? Dont confuse the faded colors and cartoonish voices for things that wouldnt work in a movie now. Yes, there wouldnt be any faded reds and bright yellows like the cartoon, thats obvious but to say the original looks wouldnt work is total rubbish.

This is a cg some guy made that keeps true to optimus' form. It looks like it would very well work in a serious film. If you're looking for some heart wrenching drama, you're in the wrong genre bud.

You're joking right? You honestly think you could put that in a big budget summer blockbuster and have people take it seriously? What next, gonna show off the Citronen clips and say they're better too? Seriously, 60% of it's form was one chunk of truck with no flexibility or articulation at all. If you wanted to make a 2 hour toy commercial you use simple designs, that's not what this is.

Oh and FYI, if you feel the need to make this into some kind of personal debate maybe you should just blist me or just stop posting altogether. Not everyone agrees with you and when someone does disagree they will say something. Especially when you use overgeneralized sweeping comments about how "we" were "disgusted" by something.

The fact is this *IS* a Transformers movie. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not one. Again, many long time Transformers fans *do* like the way the movie is shaping up.

The only 'point' you made is that this shouldn't be called Transformers because it's different then the original. My point is that *other* people like it, as seen by nearly two pages of positive comments on the trailer and numerous postings on Transformer forums that are much more up to date on news and info then the one you posted. Many long time Transformers fans are excited about the designs and the story and the direction this film is going. And just because you don't like it does not mean it should not be Transformers.

Also, saying it again, there are two pages of people who like the trailer. None of your responses were to them. And comments like this:

at first I was kinda blah about the whole thing, but after looking at real world robotic designs, the transformers are pretty near factual.

Yes frakkin is my word now. Love the way it sounds and the fact that i can "curse" without cussin is great indead.

Well, Transformers was intellectual property I assume of Hasbro or some Japanese toy company and licensed to Hasbro in the US. As such the owner has the right to sell or licensed that property however they see fit. They have the right to stick the Transformers name on anything they like that is the fact of it and fans of the original animated series have no say in the matter.

Nothing in Hollywood is new and nothing in Hollywood is sacred. When a movie like this is going to come out you either have to wipe the slate clean and wait until it comes out to judge it on it's own merits, or drive yourself and others nuts with obsessive nitpicking and whining.

And we all know that if the movie wasn't named Transformers and did pretty good in sales/nice movie to watch. People would have flipped on Bay for "stealing" the ideas of Transformers. We all know you can't have any morphing automobile without someone thinking Transformers.

The level of complexity needed for robotics to mimic the movement of humans is mind-boggling. Big blocky robots could never achieve a level of agility that would be believable.

Things from the cartoon I won't miss in the movie,

1. Megatron being a luger. Ok how does a 20 foot tall robot turn into a handgun? not only that but in some episodes he was a gun the size other Transformers would shoot, like Soundwave and other times he was the size of a gun humans could shoot.

2. Speaking of Soundwave, he was a 20 foot tall robot that turned into a boombox. Sometimes he was boombox size sometimes he was a giant bombbox. Not just him but his little helper audio casettes a bird a dog and a little man sized robot, again total lack of consistency of scale.
