Ok, for those interested I found some recent information on high definition dvd's.
The Digital Bits
It has a list of what the expected players for each camp will be as well as some expected and some announced first releases.
They followed it up today with some more news about a more expected release date for Bluray disc.
More Bluray Info
Note that this says they're expecting PS3 to be coming in May. Even though I thought I heard it would be the end of this year before it was released. Did I miss something? Also it gives the suspected price for PS3 to be $500. Expensive, but not the originally expected 7 or 8 hundred dollars from earlier last year.
Personally I have no intention of upgrading to high definition dvd's anytime soon. I recently got an upconvert dvd player for Christmas, and its great. The idea of having to buy two seperate dvd players just seems stupid to me. That and I already have an extensive dvd library and don't want to plop down another 500-1200 dollars for a new dvd player or two, plus another 20-30 bucks for each new dvd of a title I already own. I was honestly rather surprised by the lack of big budget visual centric movies coming out on first release. Lord knows we all need to see Hitch in HD. I was expecting a lot more of war and action movies besides just Black Hawk Down and Batman Begins. Like maybe Saving Private Ryan, the Die Hard movies and such. I'm sure there will always be the early adopters, perhaps even a few people who peruse these boards, but I will not be one of them. I'll wait for Sony to win the format wars and just be able to buy one player. I'll probably end up waiting for SW too, since that's sure to be a few years away. What with George Lucas's attitude of everything in his own time, plus he's putting out all 6 movies in 3-D next year I believe.
Love to hear everyone else's thoughts about all this if you're interested. Especially those more tech savvy than myself.
