Looks like Sony jumped the gun and went to bed with First 4 Internet Ltd. on that security technology without giving it a rigurous run through to make sure that company wasn't giving them a crappy program. In otherwords I would say Sony got dupped by First 4 Internet's smooth talking salesmen, I'm actually not to surprised by that.

A lot of those 3rd company's offering technology like that have some incredibly good salesmen, if you don't drill the hell out of them and their product you can get screwed pretty easily.

Or sony didn't do their homework. No matter how good someone sells the product, you test the snot out of it before putting your own name on it. That's just common sense.

Either way we are kind of on the same pages still neighbortaru

Just from experience of people selling products and stuff to our buyers or even our IT department, some of the salesmen for the product are quite sly. Hell for our cartography program the salesmen tried to promiss the world to us, I only caught him in a lie on it because of the length of time we spent examining the product.

That would of seriously screwed us over if we went with that product for our cartography and even worse the ones that were going to buy it almost had. It was like just a pure fluke that we found out the product wasn't going to do what we wanted.

Eh, got the email sent to me about that. To me it was just a pointless act, on a known problem that Sony was already addressing. The settlement though is actually a bad thing I think because it's agreements for the settlement are a bit slatted. After this means Sony gets away free of any to come problems from people bound to this class action or don't opt out of it.

Sony by their own actions were already doing free repairs to the consoles with only the shipping and handling fee as being all that you paid. There were even doing it with consoles that were 2-3 years old, not 13 months. With this settlement now instead of just paying the shipping fee you also have to pay $41. This settlement actually benefits SCEA in that they are actually getting $41 out of each repair now then just doing it free.

After getting over the whole amusement of the action, reading it closer seemed to benefit SCEA more then what their position on it was before. I mean it's either they write you a $25 check and then if you want PS2 repaired pay the repair fee in full (something like $100), get a game from a list and pay the repair fee for the PS2 in full, or just pay $41 and also pay S&H to repair the PS2 only. Position before was that you mention that "Disc Read Error" even if it's a 2-3 year old console they repaired Free you just paid S&H.

Whatever though, personally I just feel the Class Representatives to be idiots persuing that. Aparently they just want to push their weight around.

                    Re: Sony screws the pooch!

for some reason, audio cd's w/ copy protection r having very hard time gaining consumers' understandings, mostly due to their technology "glitch."

but unlike US, things went a bit different in Japan. Copy Control CD, often referred to as CCCD, has been in market for a couple of years, and large suppliers here such as avex and Toshiba EMI have been selling them. obvisouly, they began selling them in an effort to fight the unlawful copies and files flying over the internet, most of which on p2p network.

however, CCCD has had clear disadvantages, such as poor audio quality compared to the "normal" cd's, and what's more, the playback of those cd's is NOT officially supported on most cd players.

for the quality issue, some famous artists here like Soutern All Stars and Hikaru Utada have told them NOT to release their songs on CCCD. and of course we don't wanna pay the full price knowing the quality is poorer than we'd get from normal cd's.

for the playback matter, CCCD is way out of the Red Book standard (or Compact Disc - Digital Audio standard), and that results in some players unable to play it. that's why it doesn't bear the famous "Compact Disc" logo coz it doesn't conform to the standard. what's worse is that even if our players can't play it, they won't replace it, nor take returns, saying that "cd's package gives a warning that not every cd players can play it." (Japan's return policy is pretty much "dead" - in most cases absolutely no return whatsoever, w/ the sole exception being when the item is defective, but it'll only be excnaged, and can't be returned.)

moreover, CCCD has potential to damage the players, or in the worst case, to destroy it. this is because from the players' point, CCCD is way out of standard, so they'll try too hard to play it back. the result is damaged or broken players, whose cost to fix is at owners' expense.

now, if this happened in US, we can pretty much expect lawsuits coming. but in Japan, instead of making claims or filing lawsuits, consumers just "backed off" and didn't buy CCCD again. (this is a Japanese culture, so just take it as it is.) for companies, not receiving many claims or lawsuits, they mistakenly thought the public has "accepted" CCCD, but in reality, they just lost customers.

i don't know what they r planning to do next, but at least they r having hard time gaining our support.

Pfft "already addressing"! They didn't address crap! They make you pay shipping and handling...why? They put out thousands and thousands of defective units and we should pay s&h? They didn't even officially admit there was an issue. Why? $$$$ Stockholders don't like that crap! So who gets screwed? Ya, us, the little guy. I bought 5 PS2's and out of them 4 had this issue. You do the math, I got taken to the cleaners! And then you think it's ammusing about something like this, well the people that got screwed really don't think its too funny.

Umm, even in the settlement you are still paying shipping and handling to get it fixed. Just in the settlement you have the option of paying $41 for the repair or getting something else and still pay full price for the repair.

Call me crazy but if I'm only paying shipping and handling in comparison to this I wouldn't mind the shipping and handling. What $8 shipping and handling to repair the PS2 vs. $49 (Price with the $8 S&H included) to repair the PS2. I'm guessing TGM you got to be one of those customers that would want our company to do a Price Matching for an item that has a difference of something like $0.30 and demand us to pay it back to you

Now the twist to this, you spent $0.72 just to have us send you back $0.36. Boy I love hearing the people that'll blow so much money in an illusion that they'll make more out of it. Either way it is either the gas company or post office that's picking up the profit you just choose to blow away.
