From the Star Wars soundtrack, "Binary Sunset." The first part of it especially just evokes a feeling in me like there's something more. I can kind of sympathize with Luke when this song is playing, he's looking at the suns set and wishing to be a part of something better; to better himself ... feeling trapped in some life. It's funny this song came on shuffle for me right now, because this is exactly how I feel.

Was watching the videos of performances from the Grammys.

Lady Gaga and Elton John worked much better than the Eminem/Elton John pairing a few years back.

Still doesn't match the GNR/Elton John team-up, though

My soundtrack for Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep & 358/2 Days arrived. "The Silent Forest" just started. It's the track from Enchanted Dominion, easily my favorite field theme from the game.

I hadn't listened to Lady Gaga's "Born this Way" til just a few moments ago. I can see why people were comparing it to Madonna's "Express Yourself." In fact, I probably would have picked up on that without being told because the composition, tempo and lyrical speed just says its there.

In fact, a DJ didn't bother to do any mixing on this, he just laid Gaga's vocals over "Express Yourself" Its so 1:1 that it was just that easy.

I don't really know whether to think of this as a shameless rip or a blatant tribute to Madonna. Madonna approves, though, and why wouldn't she? LadyGaga just helped Madonna sell some of her old albums because of this.

I really don't know whether I see this as interesting or a pet peeve, though, because my brain treats music like this all the time

Now, those last two together is a bit more clever than what Gaga did because it works, its a place my brain and musical ear would go but I would never have imagined someone actually doing that themselves. An old friend was singing the praises of "Born this Way." When I first heard the lyrics, it sounded like a poem written by a student of a high school creative writing class. I'm not going to be as quick as others to just dismiss Lady Gaga as derivative crap that just borrows liberally from other performers. But I just don't see what other people see in her. People like her style of dress, her attitude, her thoughts on pop culture, her music videos. But it's like you can't just like her music. If you like Lady Gaga, apparently, you like the whole package. And I just don't like her music.

As for what I'm listening to now:

I recently saw the 2004 movie, In Good Company. And like all movies/video games I like, I immediately had to get the soundtrack. "Solsbury Hill" is used in the movie.

I guess I just see Lady Gaga has the love child of Boy George and Madonna. When you look at her that way, everything she does makes sense.

I think some of what she does is interesting and some of it is just pretentious crap. I like some songs, hate others.

The lyrics to "Born this Way" are banal at best, its just you could totally replace all the lyrics with Express Yourself and it would fit perfectly.

I literally just start hearing Madonna's song in there, I can't help it, it was in my head before I even went to find the tracks literally laid over.

Its like the football bit Carlos Mencia totally stole from Bill Cosby

But I guess in Gaga's case it was at least not complete plagiarism, music has room for tribute. In comedy, however, this sort of thing is just not cool. Bill Cosby's "Himself" is one of the greatest comedy albums/features ever done. You can't borrow from stuff like that and expect people to not notice.

And its not the only time Mencia has done it, stole from Sam Kinison and George Carlin, too, among others.

Every several months I still get Meridian Dance stuck in my head out of the blue. I don't remember Secret of Mana having all that strong of a story, but somehow the final boss music touched it off just right to give it one of the more emotional endings I remember from my childhood.
