its very odd.. I saw it and for some freaky reason I remembered the Return of the king book as ending differently, probably not having read them again in 12 years or so.
So I was a bit disappointed in the ending, thinking "OH THEY CHANGED THAT MAJOR THING!"
Then I saw a post by someone else somewhere, thinking the same thing as me. Now, having read it again, I see that it ends just as in the book and they were pretty faithful (though the book has way more dialogue.. maybe more in the extended DVD of the movie.. I HOPE! )
My one complaint of the movie is something they could do nothing about, which I think Peter Jackson mentioned at sometime. As in the book, there is a LOT of falling action after a "climax" of sorts.
Honestly in the book there is FAR more falling action. If they had gone into all of it, the movie would have been about an hour and a half longer with audience members probably leaving or falling asleep.
They did as good a job as they could, remaining faithful to a work which was in no way made to be a movie. If this was an original screenplay instead, it would have probably ended differently.
I just wish I'd kind of browsed the book again so i remembered some of this stuff... ahaha.
I'll of course have to see it again, probably in a week or two. In a film that long, the potty calls you and let me warn you now:
THERE IS NO GOOD TIME TO POTTY IN THIS FILM
This is one of the few movies where I found myself running back from the restroom, looking like an idiot.

Awesome MOVIE period!! 10/10 A great storyline great animation, the war scenes kicked some serious ass!! It was kinda strange only cause i didn't see LOTR 1 and 2 the war was crazy as hell like Humans 7,000 soldiers and like 100,000 orcs
Defintely the best of the 3. Also making Lord Of the Rings the best trilogy ever made.
I have no complaints about it. Because you really have to understand that Peter Jackson would of went 100% by the book if he could. So he did his best. I loved it. And if anyone didn't pick up on the ending. That wasn't one big one. It was multiple. They liked all the endings so they just put them in the movie.
10/10 easily. I can't believe the movie made 8million on the 12am showing alone. How crazy is that. Loved the music , the action ruled as always... The Witch King looked soooooo tight. Great movie.
hmm...is the Scouring of the Shire going to be in the extended version???
that's my only gripe ^^ the movie was excellent! saw it at the IMAX theatre :D

Well...it's not going to be in the extended version cause they never filmed it...BUt the House of Healing part with the angst between Faramir and Eowyn will be in it! ! ! n__n
I had a BIG problem with the ending, as that was my second favorite part of the book(first being a battle). Tolkien did have a lot of falling action, but I think they could have snipped a little of it and maybe made the movie an extra 5 or 10 min to add the ending in. So I'll give it a 9.99/10 since they didn't cater to me and my selfish needs.
Also, they gave us a nice "intermission" during the movie! Right when the ships pull in, some jackass pulls the fire alarm and the screen went black. By the time they started the movie up again, they had fastforwarded a good 5-10 min!!! Of all the parts to have fast forwarded...
Oh well, the movies were awesome except for that. I can't wait til they have some kind of collector's trilogy out. I doubt it will happen, but I hope to see them either make a movie of The Hobbit or The Silmarillion. Who wouldn't love to see Morgoth(Sauron's daddy:p ) dealing out death?
Probly one of the best movies i have seen this year .... You can tell alot of work went into this one and it shows by being the best of the three in my personal opion
p.s. Peter jackson used to live .. and probly still does 1 city away from me makes me feel proud
~yes but what happens if I run out of ideas I mean if no one can help me and i run out of ideas then what ?~
Ohi i'm not posting this to "go against the crowd" or to get on anyone's badside as i see it happening after this post lol >.> believe me i'd love to go along with the crowd n be like ooh ahh asomx0rz movie. But it just isn't in my opinion.
Believe me i respect the LotR series due to the sheer amount of time and effort put into it. I've seen each movie (only once) and knew a bit about the story going into it. However, the movies wern't very entertaining to me. It was like oh dear, here comes antoher epic braveheart battle scene where there's so much CG thrown in and clutter i can't tell wth is going on except for when they zoom in to see Legolas riddle a few with his infinite arrows.. . . The acting is horrible imo . . .i'm sorry - sure the characters fit the look but for the most part the acting is far too bland, repeated and all in all lacks emotion. I wasn't sad at the times i should have been, hardly ever felt like cheering after they somehow won at say helms deep. I'm beginning to think many claim they love the movie because of the massive hype surrounding it and the fact we all know the amount of money they spent on making it all and it's like cool to say you like it. You can't say the movies themselves have a great story as it was riped from the already exsisting Novels. Shot direction was good, i'll give it that, it can win picture of the year. . .however, even at that so many of the shot angles were recycled and overdone i even got annoyed with that. . . lol i wasn't even looking for things to complain about. . .i just noticed em.
All in all. . . i'll leave it at this. The trilogy was good, worth the recognition of it's efforts. However, it isn't worth all the hype and attention people have rewarded it, well maybe if you're one of those hardcore LotR fans as it is who notice all the faults in the story lol.
