yes, tolkein is an amazing writer, BUT, it takes a sh*tload of talent to turn your image of what a book/novel/series was, and turn it into three 3 hour motion pictures, that is probably the best series since Star Wars, THAT'S why i give props to peter jackson, because it was his idea and his directed that put tolkein's words into reality. whatever, props to anyone that ever WORKED on LOTR.

yes, i'm not discrediting tolkein, i'm saying that without jackson, all you would have is a book and your own image in your head....that doesnt account for much in movie terms here, haha. and yes, i know helm's deep was nothing, i did listen to gandalf at the end, haha.

^^ phew ^^I rented the dvd on friday and here it is monday and i am currently enveloped in my 8th battle of Helm's Deep.

I never thought I'd be able to spend 3 and sometimes 6 hours a day watching the same movie but by golly i am doing it.

I can't wait until November ( I think) when the extended version comes out. Then i will spend my days watching extended versions of Fellowship and Two Towers

Both LotR movies were great. The Two Towers just had the right combination of elements in it, the comedy (golem with his multiple personalities), action (helms deep battle...simply awesome), etc. Can't wait for the third one.

Anyone else ever seen the animated LOTR movies? They've been out for years. I saw them when I was probably about 10 or so. Not even close to the quality of work Jackson has done. So you DO need to give the director his props. Without his guidance, these movies could've turned out really lame.

Simply having a good story doesn't mean the film will be worth watching. Just look at Dune.
