Re: Melody's Technical Tantrum [Custom or Retail?]
If you have time, you can really just look at this video and it'll give you the basic details. After that, Google is your friend -- especially when it comes to learning stuff like what the hell SLI is.
Though I guess at that point, you're better off getting a higher-end fan.
Yeah, I mean they are better than air, kinda sort of. But unless you are very limited on space you can just get a Cooler Master V8 and it will pretty much be able to handle anything a normal user could throw at it but the extreme overclocking and with less risk and maintenance.
The beauty of a watercooling system is you can build a circuit to cool down your CPU, Chipset, bridges and Graphics card in one go and get them all running almost at room temperature at full load. But you require waterblocks for everything and a big radiator with hoses outside your rig, and that thing gathers more dust than air heatsinks ever could. So they require more maintenance. It also means that if the radiator fails all your system can go poof in a matter of minutes if you leave it alone and don't have some sort of protection like an automated off switch working with a thermostat. <_<;
Also known as building a freaking car inside your room.
Single watercooling systems are nice and relatively painless, but except for hybrid systems for graphics cards in Crossfire (since there's usually little room between cards for cool air to circulate) individual watercooling is not really worth it IMO.
PS > And then there's liquid leaks, just imagine what would happen if you tossed a glass of water inside your rig while it is running. Doesn't happen as often but it's a risk you are taking, specially when you are still learning and still are unsure of how to check for leaks, it's always more about the connection than the hose itself. Sometimes the weight of the hose will damage the connection over time and cause a leak, so you need to make sure the hoses are not in weird angles.

No idea about when the beta starts, but yep, I'll play XIV at least for a couple of months. My sub just ran out this month, even though I didn't play much. <_<;

And that's why mine has its vents in the rear, instead of facing down. Not that you could play anything that requires a mouse with a laptop on your lap. Either way, it's not a problem exclusive to gaming laptops.

Lol. I do have a problem like that, my heat vents on this laptop are on the bottom. I would also like to relax while playing and not having to worry about turning my thighs extra crispy. Like I said before a tower would suit me since I could self-fund it and hot swap the parts since I know what the problem would be, but like if I am going away on a vacation I guess I could invest in a gaming laptop for those who wish to give me some pointers on them.

Re: Melody's Technical Tantrum [Custom or Retail?]
There are some nice cooling pads that include an extra battery and make your laptop heavy and bulky ftw!
Other than that I really have no idea about brands and models. I only fix laptops when family sends them to me but have no idea how they bought such pricy aberrations in the first place. <_<;

Well, the thing about laptops is that you can't upgrade their CPU, graphics chip or monitor, but you'd look for the same things you would in a desktop. Like I said, as far as laptops go Asus's G series is good, try searching newegg for them. I got mine for $1250 last summer, couldn't find any other brand that would give me decent gaming specs for less than $1500. Maybe some decent competition popped up in the past year, but I doubt it.
