Crazy card is crazy. The new Keplar tech is just amazing, however I don't know how many people are going to be willing to fork out $1000 for this monster. I have to say the coolest part in that video was the whole nVidia Experience program. Using an internet database to regularly update and optimize each individual game's settings according to your PC's specs?! Phenomenal.

I just look at these events as a marketing ploy and something that grabs the attention and imagination of graphic card customers, but I don't see this as anything to get serious about. When their "consumer" variants roll out, it will be a lot less capable and a lot less spectacular. No difference than the ATI marketing machine and their horn tooting over (then) top of the line card ... in a series of 4 inside of a $50,000 supercomputer.

I'm still waiting for something in the $150~200 range out of their 600 series to replace my 465. The Keplar series is more powerful, smaller, quieter and uses far less energy over the Fermi models.

Don't get me wrong ... I'll be there in line with you for any good "medium" priced Keplar based version. But $1,000? That's way out of my league. Maybe for those e-sport candidates or rich folks for bragging rights. I want to keep my expectations really low so that my mind can be blown ... I don't want to be thinking that I'll be getting something even remotely close to a $1,000 card in a $200 offering and then claim that the card is "shitty".

That's a lot of wasted power for any gamer. What else could you do with that?

            Re: GTX 690 - The $1000 Beast

Oh I absolutely agree. I mean performance wise, AMD is fucked - no way they can put out something that can compete with this in that regard.

But given the scarcity of the 680's I don't think this will do as well as nVidia thinks. I've checked numerous forums for reviews & opinions and the overwhelming consensus has been nVidia can shove this card up their ass at $1k - most people would rather get 2 680's as they cost the same.

I'm also rather surprised that the very next model up from the 680 is such a staggering leap in cost - this is the kind of shit I was expecting of the 700 series tbh.

              I hope they introduce a Keplar card under $300 ... otherwise I'll just save money for a PS4 ...

                Re: GTX 690 - The $1000 Beast

The 7850 and 7870 are great contenders right now for those with a budget (a bigger budget, although not quite big enough to drop on a $500~ GPU) and that's where AMD's strength lies. They're kind of winning on the lower end so far in this generation, since you're having to go back to Fermi if you want a card under the 680 range. I fully expect mid-range Kepler's to come out by Fall though, probably a 660ti or something along those lines. My biggest problem with AMD/ATI lies within their drivers. Individual profiling with NVidia is great and their latest beta drivers with their FXAA and adaptive v-sync has improved conditions for many of my less-optimized games.

Also, it seems more and more games are 'optimized' for NVidia--I have no idea why, maybe they're paying the dev's out to get that extra juice. Up until my 560ti, I've always owned Radeon cards and they were good to me for a long time.

Well, The nVidia Experience app that they are launching this fall I think (I don't care to watch that longass video again) is going to be absolutely amazing and a game-changer. I can't imagine how much work it must have been to compile that database but I sure as hell love what it's going to offer. The only problem will be if it comes with just the higher priced cards and isn't just something you can download, but I don't see how the company could be that stupid.

Nah, money is on the torrent, so they're not going to make it exclusive.

                    @ Hayde

Back in 2010, the GTX460 was actually the mid-ranged card that was spanking the pants off ATI, because the only thing they had was a pitiful excuse of a mid-ranged card in the 5830, an overpriced, overheated POS ATI cash delivery system.

                      Re: GTX 690 - The $1000 Beast

Wait, wasn't the GTX460 advantage an ever so slightly one in SLI and only because SLI handles microstuttering better than Crossfire?

Also, the overheating had to do with some brands that were being cheap with the heatsink, it's just more of a bad rumor than an actual performance difference. Except nVidia was always more expensive.

So unless there was some sort of massive event I missed the difference between both brands has ever so slightly steered in ATI's direction when it comes to raw power while nVidia has always been better at optimizations that make nVidia cards run slightly better over time. So it's more of personal preference and budget thing rather than any significant performance advantage either way.

PS > That's not counting Physx of course, that's just plain sabotage on the part of nVidia to force gullible people into buying their physx of awesomeâ„¢ scam.

No, 5830 was worse than the GTX 460 1GB in performance in nearly every benchmark and nearly every test that was performed at the time. The 5830 barely edged out the GTX 460 768MB variant. The 5830 had the same overheating problems that plagued the 4870, probably because they were from the same yield bin. The 5830 was also overpriced, I believe the cheapest you could get was for $250 at the time. The GTX 460 was $199 for the 768MB and $229 for the 1GB. I don't believe ATI ever bothered to bring the price of the 5830 down to compete ... they just quietly stopped producing them and replaced it with the 6850. It was also the same with the 5850 where it was replaced with the 6870, but at least in the 5850's case, it was a solid performer, but still too expensive.

That's odd, that's not what I read about it. But it doesn't really matter regardless, I've yet to see any significant difference in performance to make me become a fanboy of either brand.

Although again, Physx has pretty much guaranteed I will boycott nVidia products until they stop being stupid and making things more difficult for PC gaming.

We had a full blown discussion back when Dak was trying to decide on what card to get. Once he splurged on the SLI for GTX 460, I was convinced to go that route and abandon the sinking "mid ranged ATI ship". Mind you, at the time, the 5870 was still the top dawg no matter what price ATI decided to charge for. It was good at whatever price the consumer was willing to pay. The 5850 should've been the card at $250 and the 5830 was not worth more than $200, but some delusional marketer over at AMD thought it was worth $300 (at the highest point)

I still think you're getting the 5830 and the 5850 mixed up...

The introduction price I have seen on a few websites in the uk is £929 which is $1500!!!!! Why the hell we having to pay $500 more for it than you guys?
