what best free Anti - Virus software?

I use spybot but that doesn't really find all the types of viruses. It feels like there are always some still in there, giggling. >.>

I used to use ad-aware but ppl say you should only have one antivirus software installed.

I check some free trials but they are sooooo annoying. they find all the problems, but then they want you to buy the full thing to get rid of them. hmph.

Spybot doesn't find viruses at all, that is not what it is for. Ad-aware's free version doesn't include their anti-virus program. These are malware scanners. I personally prefer Spybot.

AVG and Avast! are anti-virus programs. Pair one of them with spybot or ad-aware.

After killing McAffee on my computer, I've chosen AVG... but I should proly get spybot/adaware to pair up.

Probably the only really free one is ClamAV and its Windows front-end ClamWin, but I suspect you're using a different definition of free.

Back when I used windows, I used Spybot, AVG, HJT, and CCleaner fairly regularly. I barely remember what any of them do anymore, though, some of them (especially HJT) are probably fairly fairly risky to use if you don't know what you're doing. Which you don't.

Probably the only really free one is ClamAV and its Windows front-end ClamWin, but I suspect you're using a different definition of free.

Clam is horrible for anything other then a scanner at the gateway in front of end to systems that have a better scanner. It shouldn't even be mentioned when asking about AV for desktops.

If you are gaming go for Avast! AV is notorious for eating up memory for no viable reason during scans. My PC always sounded like it was a jet turbine whever it ran a scan until a switched to Avast!.

If you need a firewall, Comodo also has a built in anti-virus now so you get two in one.

ah can't use comodo since it only supports XP SP2, not regular XP. >.< I got a warning when I downloaded and tried to install it. Windows recommended to not install.

Why aren't you running SP3? There is a reason Vanilla XP and XP SP1 are not supported by MS anymore.
