  • OMG Firefox vulnerability????

So this is a few days but still.

The world is ending soon!! Firefox has a serious security flaw in the latest release!

There. Now for all you people anti-FF, you finally have something you can tout over us. Until FF3 launches here in a few weeks. Then we're back on top again. lawlzzz.z

Don't think I've ever came across actual "anti-FF" people, unless you mean those who don't like Final Fantasy series of games.

    Edit:

I think that's MFSA 2008-05, a "high" impact bug, which I guess isn't as bad as "critical" ones such as MFSA 2008-06 (Web browsing history and forward navigation stealing) or MFSA 2008-03 (Privilege escalation, XSS, Remote Code Execution) or MFSA 2008-01 (Crashes with evidence of memory corruption).

Link to Mozilla (Firefox) Security Advisories, for those interested.

That's cute. But there's plenty of IE fanboys out there that think FF is just the next internet fad or something. I think you fail to give enough credit to internet users these days. The days of mom 'n pop on the internet emailing the kids is dwindling. People are become more and more tech-savvy every year. I'd say it's a pretty good estimate to say that at least 45% of internet users today know the difference between IE and FF.

The burden of proof is on the individual stating a "fact", not the other way around. That's like me claiming that polka-dot pink space elephants are orbiting the earth, you respond with "you're wrong" and my retorting with "prove it."

Basically. Except in that case it's probably not too hard to disprove the theory of the polka-dot elephants in space.

Well, they probably aren't actually. Come to think of it. People are mostly stupid in every aspect of life. Computers are dangerous.

I pretty much lost all faith in the general public's technical savvy, after seeing how many people fell for the "burning water for energy" hoax and the tenacity with which they cling to wishful thinking, the general aversion to reasoning, and the popularity of "believing".

Just about every recent outbreak of any virus/worm has been because they have been able to take advantage of vulnerabilities that were patched months previous.

no one said Firefox didn't have issues...we just said that it had fewer issues than IE which makes it safer! Now we've got a big bug...hopefully it will be solved quickly...

Majority of people don't know about Firefox
That's cute, except around 17% of web browsers in use today are firefox. Over 25% of the EU uses firefox. Most people have at least heard of firefox at some point or another; especially anyone who uses internet forums.

I pretty much lost all faith in the general public's technical savvy, after seeing how many people fell for the "burning water for energy" hoax and the tenacity with which they cling to wishful thinking, the general aversion to reasoning, and the popularity of "believing".
I'd say there's a bit of a gap between 'physics and religion' and 'technology and education'. As to wishful thinking, it is good, up to a point. If everyone were a defeatist, we never would've made it into space, or the moon, and they'd remain science fiction. There are a lot of scientific normalities today that would've seemed impossible a century ago, there's no reason to not have hope and interest in any new progress that might come along.

Fine. Russel's teapot, Invisible Pink Unicorn, Flying Spaghetti Monster, take your pick, anything I can imagine and disprove it.

The point is that the burden of proof is on the person claiming something, not trying to disprove it.

The rest of your post is great, but I can disprove this quite easily: if said unicorn is reflecting the light waves required for the color pink, it can not simultaneously be invisible. The concept of said creature in and of itself is therefore a contradiction.
