  • Dell and Stereo Mix

Apparently Dell decided not to include a stereo mixer in their drivers for their Inspiron E1505s, which is what I'm using. I uninstalled the drivers, and installed one that should have worked correctly, but it doesn't. Now there isn't a single driver that works, and the driver disc that came with the machine was damaged in its sleeve.

Has anybody had this problem? I can't find a single driver that works, and when it seems like it should work I can't change any of its properties and programs just dont seem to detect it.

I'm going out of my mind.

    Re: Dell and Stereo Mix

I fixed it, I think. Let me clarify on some things.

    1) The driver for my SigmaTel audio card provided by Dell does not come with a Stereo Mixer. This is a problem because you can not record audio with programs like Fraps or Wegame without it.

    2) When I uninstalled the drivers a file was removed causing the Windows Audio Builder service to malfunction. The Windows Audio service relies on it and doesn't start without it.

    3) Installing other drivers doesn't help.

    4) The only solution I've found is to manually remove the dependency through the registry editor. So far so good, but I'm keeping a back-up just incase Microsoft, Dell, or SigmaTel(as if) releases a fix.

Sorry for the mess. At the end of the day I still don't have a stereo mixer.
