  • Is this possible?

Not sure where a question like this is suppose to go... mods can of course go ahead and move it if so.

I'm staying at my sister's house for awhile, and I'm going to bring my PS2 for FFXI. However, her living and office room is quite a distance away from each other. Sure I can get a long ethernet cable to drag it between the TV/PS2 and router, but I know she wouldn't like that. (Hell, I wouldn't either.)

So then this idea came up. She also has a wireless router she uses for her laptop. I was thinking by plugging the ethernet cable into it's port, the PS2 can feed off the wireless connection the laptop is using.

Sadly I am not tech-savvy, so I'm not sure if this the most brilliant idea I ever had, or the dumbest. After all this wouldn't be the first time my PS2 failed me... The simplest things has unexpected outcomes with that thing.

    Re: Is this possible?

People have reported problems playing online games via wireless connections. Also having to go through the laptop and use its wireless conection would be difficult, hell i wouldn;t even know if its possible or not, as for you saying your not tech savy then i wouldn't even attempt it.

Yes, it's very possible, I've even done it that way before.

Basically, to get it to work, you'd have to go into the windows network settings, select the two connections (the wireless and the ethernet), and select "bridge connections". It'll create a 3rd connection, labeled as a bridge, and it *should* work.

However, windows bridging hasn't always worked for me, but if it works it stays working. But if you disable or drop the bridge, the next time you do it, it may not work, which is why I bought an actual hardware bridge when I did this.

You can try and hope it works the first time.
