Turn OCD mode off and it'll stop checking and rechecking every god damned thing you do. Turn user accounts off as well, that's a huge pain for some games, namely the BF line I believe.

UAC is a necessary evil. I've come to accept that. I turned off the feature where it blacks out the screen though, because that kills FFXI. Now it's not that bad, honestly.

FTFY. No other company or group has found it a good idea to build in such an ass-backwards security system to their OS.

Thanks, Feba. Based on your history on the forum, I know you are an avid Linux user, so I'm going to conclude that your fixing of my statement is putting a negative connotation onto it.

But I've learned to deal with it because it's overall not a big deal.. But I just can't tinker around with my computer. It's stupid though, because the way Vista (doesn't)work, necessary things for retards like me such as System Restore, don't work the way they're supposed to.

In fact, nothing in Vista really works the way it's supposed to. Dumb ass OS.. I'm tired of Reimaging my PC back to Factory settings for it to work properly. -_-

          Thanks. Feba. Now I'm mad.

It's not so much as I like Linux so much as I dislike Windows and hate Microsoft. Linux is just what I use because it's A- The most popular free OS, and B- I'm too freaking cheap and like fiddling with my hardware too much to use OS X.

I'm going to conclude that your fixing of my statement is putting a negative connotation onto it.
Pretty much. UAC is definitive proof that Microsoft has resorted to using brain damaged chimpanzees to do development for them. There is no reason why people should be disabling the biggest security feature they have because it's so poorly implemented.

Re: Yay I got Windows XP back!

I think what Feba is trying to say is, everyone is comfortable with different things like some people like cars and hate trucks, others hate cars and like trucks. Just like some people hate Mac, Windows, and Linux, and some love Mac, Windows, and Linux. It just has to do with your comfort level. Like I personaly would rather be a mage then a DD or a Melee. It just has to do with what you like and nothing more. To me I just like XP because, it still says when you have a virus the whole thing just doesnt freeze. Also, to me it does run better then Vista, because Vista takes up like all my memory. XP doesn't I just never new how much I liked XP till Vista came out.

One more thing, I just hate Vista because 1) if you use the sidebar it runs slowly. 2) if you use Windows Areo it freezes alot more. 3) you have to have like permission to do anything, so what if you arent a admin, how the hell do you use Vista?? But, I do like Windows Defender, that does help get rid of spyware and trojans very well, so well OTHER virus scans couldn't find them.

And some people drive Escalades and Hummers and bitch about gas prices and hog the road and spew toxic fumes into the atmosphere with their Behemoth Machines and absorb UV rays with their Guido-Jelled Hairstlyes.

Vista just needs a couple good service packs. Then it'll be on it's way. ^_^

Re: Yay I got Windows XP back!

Shoopi: I'm not saying it's just tastes. For most people, there is a certain vehicle that is far better than other options, and there are some vehicles that are just nearly unusable shit. Some vehicles break down way too often to be useful.

I'm saying that an OS shouldn't be considered bad because it's not like the one you're used to. A learning curve is generally good-- it means it does something different; if not better, this at least means it has a chance of being better suited to one purpose or another than something else.

you have to have like permission to do anything, so what if you arent a admin, how the hell do you use Vista??
This brings up probably two of Windows' biggest flaws. First, Windows tries to put out a perception of being 'easy to use', when honestly it takes more effort to learn to use effectively than many linux distros, not to mention OS X. No offense, but your complete misunderstanding of user permissions is a good example of this. No computer, or OS, should ever be sold without giving the user encouragement to learn how to use it effectively. Apple seems to do a good job of this with their user workshops, although I haven't looked into that much myself. Linux tends to be more on the 'teach the user to help themselves' front, and just provides documentation, but there is a large community of help out there, and using it is encouraged with many distros. Going back to the computers and cars analogy (which is really too useful, given there are a lot of places where it doesn't apply, but still) Windows encourages people that it's so easy to use that they don't need to get licenses, and as a result even people that don't have a clue what a gas pedal does are out on the roads driving. Second, the Admin/User relationship in Windows is just screwed up. With XP (And before it, I believe) the user was pretty much forced (or at least heavily encouraged) to use an Admin account for everything, which is one reason Windows security is so poor. With Vista, I'm pretty sure they changed that, but in the process of adding UAC made it so incredibly annoying (not to mention ineffective, by merely providing a clickthrough) that most people have turned it off and made their security even worse than before.

But, I do like Windows Defender, that does help get rid of spyware and trojans very well, so well OTHER virus scans couldn't find them.
Windows Defender picks up a lot of false positives, though, in my experience.

Re: Yay I got Windows XP back!

Defender is ok. I don't use Limewire anymore cause of WD finding spyware upon me unpacking the damn installer. And I recall you saying something a while ago about things in Linux making sense as opposed to Windows forcing a hierarchy or terms and such onto people, making them conform to the rigid style of the OS.

I'm not so much on the fence with Vista being as how I had decent knowledge of security before I started using it, and the fact that if I don't do anything outside the realm of decency I don't get tugged in.

At the worst, they should have a learning function for Vista. I shouldn't have to click on UAC for POL if I open the damn thing every day. Same thing for friggin msconfig or something I use a decent amount of the time.

That, to me, is the second most annoying part. Only trumped by the fact that the default Administratively-Powered account in Vista isn't really an Admin account at all. WTF? That is just batshit stupid. I have Admin abilities to install programs and maybe, if I felt like it, change ownership, but I'm not really an Admin so I need to be babysat.

                      WTH, MS. WTH.
