Internet Issues...

So lately my god damn internet is being totally random.

It will stop working for long periods of time, or sometimes just a short period I can never tell. All I know is every time I have to mess with modem and router to get it working...

And even when it's working fine, I keep R0-ing on FF, and disconecting/reconecting at random it's really starting to piss me off.

Any clues as to what's wrong and what I can do?

Try connecting directly to your modem w/o the router and see if things change.
If all is good, the a good chance your router is just dropping packets for many various reasons.

I personally detest any home user 'routers' by linksys. They drop packets for no fucking reason even if you are listening on the proper ports. That said, try checking if your ports are open for everything ffxi uses.

I currently use one from netgear for my apt.

I've gone through 2 routers by linksys over the years and ive had the most trouble with first person shooters. I wouldnt be surprised if they randomly dropped packets for ffxi.

Another test you can see if its dropping packets is to run a persistent ping to something that will respond to you. Take yahoo.com for example, it responds to ping. So open a command prompt and type:

ping yahoo.com -t

this will keep pinging yahoo.com until you kill it with ctrl-c.

see if any of the responses you get are time outs, there shouldnt be any.

I've been meaning to get that XBL certified D-Link, but the god damn Microbytes near me closed down and though best buy carries it online, the god damn store near me doesn't keep it in stock - _ -'

Also, this keeps popping up as soon as I get past the "checking" stage of the update.

that looks like one of the files in your ffxi directory. is there any message along with that? any errors thrown?

I got several of those last night. Near as I could tell the connection was just timing out and it wasn't d/l'ing the full .dat. I'm thinking it goes back to your connection.
