  • video capture/editing software

OK I have the plans for my new PC but not quite enough $$$ to build it so I'm continuing my invistaging. The capture devices on the really old thread I made(where I asked if I should build it or buy it XD) seem workable.(leaning twords USB or firewire to save slots since silly SLI mainboards seem to be the norm and have very few slots)

What I wated to ask here is what's some good software for doing video editing? Here's what I want to do:

    1. My dad has a huge collection of VHS tapes and some of these will never be on DVD or any of the newer formats("Song of the South" in particular...Disney is just too darn politically correct!). I need to make digtal copies and clean them up as much as posible. I know these will not be DVD quality but I want them to look...well decent...

    2. Homamde Tivo(easy but I'd like to cut the commericals XD)

Don't get an ATI capture card. Just don't. The people I've known that went with ATI's had no end of trouble.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.
