  • Free(or cheap) Antivirus?

Yesterday I was brousing the internet when I got a pop up about my computer being possibly infected with viruses. Being a pop up, I knew the ad itself was probably a virus, so I canceled it, but ti started downloading anyway. I ran a scan from PCtools and it found 16 infections, including the 3 from last night, 11 from Myspace(keep a note not to let my sister use the computer... ever again.) and 4 cookie trackers. However, to actually remove these infections, I have to pay $40 just for the base package for one computer, and I don't want to do that since I'm getting a new computer in about a year.

Anyway, I'm asking if anyone knows of a cheap or preferable free system I can use to remove these. They are mostly adware and nothing to dangerous though two are "browser hijackers"(anyone know what these are? I'm guessing a spyware), but I would still rather not have them on my computer. And please, don't say "get linux", I'll do that when I get my new computer, I don't want to reinstall and reformat everything on this one.

They have a free version on the right hand side, and for me has solved most of my problems. Seems to be regularly updated.

Personally I like spyware detector, but there is an annual fee for it, but untill you get a new computer ad-aware may work for you.

AVG and SpyBot should keep you running.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

Seems interesting, I guess it would work...
Anything else? Or is this the only decent freebie?

Very good, highly recommended and the law firm I work at deploys the licensed version of it through it's entire network (6 Offices spread out around the world)
