  • Windows Vista vs. Apple OSX Tiger

So, let's talk about which OS you prefer more.

I like the Vista OS more, as far as I can tell. I tried it out at an XPS booth at the mall a while back and the UI was the primary thing I liked. It was sleek, condensed, and practical. And the way files were organized in the start menu was also a step up from XP. That's about all I really had time to notice, since the XPS computer blocked out most functions, since it was a display model.

Re: Windows Vista vs. Apple OSX Tiger

Personally, for the next three years or so (whenever Windows 7 should be coming out), my preference is something like *Buntu > OSX (I'm sorry but I can't freaking see any difference between them) > XP > Vista, of the OSes I've tried, which is really the problem with things like this. Not many people have neutrally gone in, tried OSes, and see what they liked- and none of them had much knowledge to get over the things they don't that are usually small problems with easy fixes.

Asking most people what their favorite OS is is like asking the average car owner what type of fuel they prefer. Sure, there are some avowed diesel users, and even the occasional biodiesel or ethanol or electric junkie, but pretty much everyone you meet is going to be thinking "What's wrong with unleaded petrol?"

From what little I remember of and have used DOS it was total crap. MS really peaked around 95 imo.

Oh god 95 was the WORST, no no no just no, keep that away!

I think ME was close to the best, it was an improvement on 98 but not close to XP. But XP compared o what it could be is terrible. but as its been around for OH so long its the "best", yeah right ¬,¬

Vista is Ms's way to try something new and make money for the new windows, which had better be better than vista

            Oh hellz no ...

            Windows 2K > Windows 98 > Windows NT > Windows ME > Windows 95

Windows 95 was crap out of the box and people w/o internet was forced to figure out their driver issues and why their legacy hardware was trying to abort the OS.

Windows ME was actually a downgrade from 98. Plus the lolsecuritylol holes were obscene...

NT was decent, but shoddy driver support was what turned me off. You had to write your own drivers or find them on some obscure website...

98SE2 was where Microsoft finally "got it" (or just got lucky with random tosses of various patches) Still, it was crappy, but not fully crappy... what had it going was the 5 billion 600 million applications that were written for the OS...

Windows 2K was pretty good. Never had driver issues, errors were down to a minimum and BSoDs weren't all that common if you weren't doing something stupid...

I still think BSD/Linux ran Windows roughshod in the way they both just worked well out of the box... I never had ANY issues with installing them ... well, okay, there was this one Linux distro, but it was a retarded attempt to emulate Windows, so they fscked themselves in the end...

So far Vista is doing pretty good, yeah I have a game here and there that wont play...but I am running Vista HP 64-bit so that is a bit of the problem, I am sure alot of things will be fixed with eh first SP that comes out in OCT.

I would have stuck with XP, but I had to upgrade for work, and my XP cd key was not valid anymore, due to over use ;p

Many have called Windows Me "the most unstable OS that MS has ever made" and for good reason. It would screw up 10 times more than XP or 98 ever did XD

XP got ok after lots and lots of updates(and dodging spyware), but serioulsly...as arcane and unweilding as DOS was I think it was the last good MS OS(it did lack a good memory manager tho!). Windows is just trash and it really hasn't gotten much better since it was the operating enviorment of Windows 3.1...in fact is gotten worse as of late...getting bigger, bulkier, more complicated and more of a system hog with each new version. A good os shouldn't totally take over the system to the extent that apps get hard to run on it...and that's one of the directions Vista seemed to be headed....(the other is that it has lots and lots and lots of incompatibility problems)

I think I'd rather just stay totally away from Vista and if I have to use Windows I'm staying with XP. Other than that trying something like Linux or MAC OS X out sounds like a better idea to me....

The OS I prefer is the one that lets me get the most done for the task at hand.

Since my day job has me working on a Windows product in an all Microsoft shop, I prefer the native OS. Since I'm still in 32-bit land, Vista offers slightly less than nothing over XP Pro.

For my personal computing, I always defenestrate. I find Linux and OSX far more comfortable and capable than Windows, so I tend to use those for my general and recreational computing. Ubuntu being my linux du'jour.

You say junkie like it's a bad thing.

I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

You just read it that way.

The fact that most of this thread is comparing different versions of Windows is pretty much exactly what I was talking about.

I could do plenty with it back in the day and you actually had to work at it(type the wrong command almost on purpose, ETC.) to screw up DOS. With Windows you can do almost nothing to it and it'll crash out or screw up....
