  • Driver Issue!

Recently my computer has been crashing or been really slow and "jumping" scenes in several games I have. I tried defragmenting my computer to no avail, and tried everything from low to high graphics setting on all of them. So, I did what anyone would do - Update their drivers.

I went to nVidia.com and got the recent driver for GeForce Series 6(I have GeForce 6200, thats the right driver, right?) but my computer is worse then before. It won't even let me run Civilization IV or Sims 2 because my driver is not DirectX 9.0 compatable and everything else, including web browsing, is really slow and jumpy. I used to be able to scroll down a whole page on these fourms in around 10 seconds, now it takes 100. I also used to run my graphic resolution on 1152 x 900 with 32 bit color, but now thats not even an option. I can only run 800x600, 1280 x 1024 and 1600 x 1200 in 16-bit color.

Is it possible to un-update my drivers? Anyone have an idea for this?

    Re: Driver Issue!

You can uninstall them and reinstall an older version if you can find them, or try Omega drivers. Those have worked well for me in the past.

forums.guru3d.com has links to driver cleaners. The latest drivers shouldn't do that though, sounds like your installation went bad.

Unfortunately the Omega drivers are not really maintained anymore, but the 6 series cards are old enough that the drivers that are out there will work with it.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

Is there any problem before you updated your driver? There is another possibility that the hardware components in your graphic card starts to wear out:

It happened to my previous gfx card, and that card was less than 3 years old. I tried format hard-drive, old/new drivers (clean install after format, tried various drivers).... still got corrupted 3D display, crash often. And that gfx card last another year until it dies completely - motherboard failed to detect it.

To make the long story short, how old is you gfx card? It seems that your gfx card situation is very similar to mine: it worked perfectly fine until weird symptoms show up on one day (w/o changing any drivers or install anything, etc).

          Re: Driver Issue!

Well, my computer was acting a little weird lately... no big problems though untill this. I got my computer oh... Jan '04, so it's about 3 1/2 years old now. I re-downloaded the drivers and reinstalled it though and everthing is almost back to normal. I still can't chose 1152 x 900 res., but I can get 1152 x 864, close enough at any rate. As for any actual improvement, I fail to see anything but mabye I'll notice my games crash less... or more, eventually.
