yes, and if I didn't want to play games I'd get an ASUS 3ePC for a third of the cost of the PS3

Well, do keep in mind that for the most part, a "home computer" isn't made to play 3D games. You can do anything else perfectly fine using the PS3 Linux and while it's a tragedy that Sony's decided to keep the RSX off-limits, the console does perform most other tasks just fine.

A neat feature to have, but useless if you're only looking to play more complex games.

I'm pretty sure that the PS3 architecture will not allow for some moderately heavy multi-tasking even with a Linux OS. The problem is that from what I read on Gamasutra from other developers is that the system is quite efficient in what it does ... namely, run a video game ... and run one instance of it ... and nothing else. I highly doubt it could run a game in the background and you start watching Spiderman 2 movie in the foreground and not notice a major impact to the overall system performance. I could have FFXI and WoW running on my 4-year old desktop PC as an example and only see a minor impact to my performance. I highly doubt you could do this with how the PS3 is setup right now. Maybe Sony will consider so for the PS4 ... but that's years away at this point.

Feba I haven't done this yet since I'm still having Wi-fi issues(which I plan to solve). For the most part I wanted it to use firefox, open office and play all tose compression-encoded anime files I downloaded.(yay general PCs stuff!)

For games I was just gonna use PS1, PS2, and PS3 games in console mode...I just wanted to add some normal PC functions to it...
