It didn't work the first time, why would it work the second?
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

If at first you don't succeed, make it clear to everyone that you didn't RTFM.

Edit your post and it should work fine.

Re: Building AMD computer for FFXI

Building something like that just for FFXI is like using a tank to kill a fly. You have far more computer then FFXI needs.

BTW, unless for some reason you're dead set on an A64 processor, a Core 2 Duo is a better chip.

Yea, I figured as much mhu. I'm going to use it for many other things just the main reason I'm building a computer is so I can play ffxi. Its fun killing flys with tanks

That system is somewhat over kill for FFXI... but impressive none-the-less. There is supposedly a patch on the playonline website to make FFXI run on Vista... and exactly what kind of help are you asking for? We can't exactly come over and put it together for you.

                    Ok, two questions:

1- Are you going to play any games other than FFXI?

                    2- What games are they?

If you only need to play FFXI, you are wasing about two thousand dollars there. I mean you could seriously get a new computer from HM for 300$ orDell for 400$ that could play FFXI fine, not to mention you could get a used computer for FAR less than even that.

Re: Building AMD computer for FFXI

Best part is it wont run much better than a single 3Ghz proc. with XI, due to the already classic dated coding.

Although I understand the feeling of wanting to build the best computer you can, I felt the same when I started building PCs. Although after you get more experience you stop overkilling systems and focus on what works best for the purpose of the PC you are building.

                        Good Luck.

Yea, I understand what your saying. But for first time building a pc I just have to make it the best I can. The first one always has to be overkilled.

Re: Building AMD computer for FFXI

FFXI's coding was dated two years ago, and it was shitty three years before that.

It's up to you if you want to spend that much money, but I personally wouldn't spend more than a thousand dollars on a gaming PC. Remember that architectures change, It's better to get a 300$ graphics card now and a 300$ graphics card in a year and a half than to get a 600$ graphics card now and a 600$ graphics card in two and a half years.

Remember that computers have been doing Music and Movies well for over a decade, anything you get now will own the crap out of it.

Personally, for what you need, I'd get something with 1GB of RAM, a GeForce 6 or 7, if you want to store a lot of music and movies a 500GB hard drive, and leave everything else cheap.
