    Nothing.
They were banned for using speedhacks, but because everyone believes the frame rate of the game is tied to either the clock speed of the GPU or the CPU they were able to confess their innocence.
on some older chips, the only way to really 'overclock' them is to mess with the internal timers (a very difficult and 'risky' process), and the side effect of doing this could sometimes result in the fps of FFXI being able to go above the 30fps ceiling. (your system clock will also run fast now, since your cpu is no longer 'counting' real-time correctly) this would result in apparent 'speed hacks' without a tool.

the sort of overclocking one would do with a modern CPU won't have this sort of affect at all.

GPU overclocking will have almost no effect on XI, since the GPU has very little to do with the game, sadly :/

yep, Mhurron, anyone who has a windower can tell you that your system clock doubles as a speedhack. Also, overclocking graphics card, if you ever get a chance to play a game on an old computer with a CPU turbo button :D Lots of them will run twice as fast.

It's well known that overclocking can, in some cases, increase frame rate and the system clock. While it might not be much of a problem anymore, I still wouldn't risk it.

Remember, FFXI, at least on PC, has horrible programming.
