I can't even imagine using a terrabyte of space. lol

Back in 2000, I had a friend with over a terrabyte of mp3s stored on his HD and numerous CDRs. They took up most of one of his walls.

Honestly, that's not so impressive, but I promise you this will be overpriced. 1GB LAN is nothing special a 40$ network card has the same thing, you're still highly unlikely to get over 10MB on actual downloads, I've never broken 2MB on a torrent (and trust me, my connection could)

I could make a 1.5TB computer out of three drives that would cost like... Iunno, 400-800$ish depending on what I get. Honestly, i'm not impressed by anything under 4TB anymore.

EDIT: yeah, uh http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136073 - three of those is easily just under 400$ not counting shipping/tax, and most likely any fairly new computer's motherboard won't get you much trouble hooking them up.

EDIT2: actually paying attention, that has free shipping, and a 10$ rebate, so it's actually about 360$

Oh, and to be clear, I came here expecting to be able to make a jack thompson joke.

Now i'm just going to say it got it's name because there's jack in it worth caring about.

If (and this is a huge IF) everyone had a rig like this and the Internet conexion was fast enough then it would make torrents much faster, but having only one of this on a torrent would only be useful as a seeder.

And yeah 1 Terabyte isn't that much nowadays.

Still, it's a good rig to have for dedicated Torrenting.

I didn't say it was special or anything. I was just bored and wanted to post some trivial information.

If you want something to jizz into your pants about it's the 1 TB drive by Hitachi for under $400 bucks.

            http://www.maximumpc.com/article/fin...yte_hard_drive

So now what, you have the worlds 1st 1 TB desktop disc drive, slap 4 of them together in a buffalo NAT drive and you get 4 terrabytes at the cost of $400 * 4 + 600 = $2,200
If that wasn't good enough then there is nothing on this earth that would satisfy your needs Feba.

Why pay 400$ for a 1TB drive when you could pay 260$ for two 500GBs? Unless you don't have any more room for them...

I still don't get what makes this any more impressive than a minicomputer with a few nice hard drives and an ethernet jack.

Look at the cost, you still need to shell out a motherboard, ram, the cost of the hard drives, and the cost of the enclosure (unless you like to have things out gathering dust.)

it also streams iTunes and serves videos.

So there, I challenge you to build a better micro computer for less than $318 bucks.
And when you do, let's see you mass market it and sell it to people.

Seriously Feba, do you have anything... useful to contribute? Man I remember back before you migrated to the boards it was so much "nicer".

And that's the thing, it's EASIER to make these things mass market, because then you can buy things in bulk.

still, you want me to beat that? i'll get right on it.

EDIT: Quick question, do I have to have a case? Technically, it's not needed to make the computer run. You could make a PC in a shoebox if you wanted to.

You need a case, in that form factor.

I'm not saying that i'm going to go into business out producing them, i'm saying that it's a waste of cash. I don't understand why i'm expected to shell out 320$ for something I could make myself for nearly a hundred dollars cheaper, just using an old case (and trust me, there's tons of them out there, you don't even have to look).
