  • Gaming Laptop

    Soon I'll be living on campus, finally, and I'll need a laptop to bring with me back and forth for the weekends. I'm pretty clueless about laptops in general; the only two places I know of being Alienware and Dell that build ones with gaming specs. It actually looks like Alienware is cheaper than Dell, though Dell laptops do look better. Alienware cases are the worst.

    Does anybody else know of any other places I should check out? I'm not looking for anything nextgen, just something that can run BF2142 and similar games.

    Thanks

    Alienware is Dell.

    Quite frankly, if 'gaming specs' are you're requirement then a laptop is not what you want. You'd end up getting a 'desktop replacement' that would have a few minutes of battery life, be hotter then the blazes of hell itself and weigh as much as a tank.
    I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

      Well, I'm not looking for gaming on the go, just something portable with which I'll be able to game with during the week. Battery life, and weight wont be an issue, and I wont be worrying about it burning down my sperm count since it'll be placed on a desk.

        Then pretty much any laptop with a dedicated video card (something like an ATI x1600) a modern processor and decent amount of ram would be fine.

        The more portable it is, the more you'll end up sacrificing as regards power.

            Asus has some decent models around I think. You should check out a notebook forum, you'll find heaps of information around.

              I wouldn't mind picking up a laptop I could occasionally play FFXI on as well. But on the other hand, I'd rather have a mac powerbook. :/

                Yeah, I think if I were to ever get a laptop, I'd get a macbook pro with ilife.

                  Why not get a Macintosh laptop and play FFXI on it?

                    I've got an IBM T43p. Pretty powerful computer that a lot of the engineers here use. ( Huge engineering school ) Anyways, I just recently picked up a flat-screen monitor for it, so I'm able to play on the monitor and take it out whenever I need to.

                    Laptop = god.

                      Could look into UMPCs. still a tad pricey, but most of them are fairly good with games from what i've seen. Except the OQO, and I haven't seen it's Model2.

                      Onboard graphics aren't that bad, just make sure they support T&L enough to run FF.
