  • FFXI on a mobile platform [UMPC]

Just curious if anyone has tried running FFXI on a portable system, such as a Sony Viao-UX UMPC. Looks like a nice computer, and given that it's nearly as portable as a PDA, it could be very useful for playing games (and not just FFXI)

On youtube i've seen various videos of UMPCs being used for games such as F.E.A.R., WoW, and Call of Duty, however FFXI has a tendency to be a hassle running things. Specifically, most UMPCs i've seen run Intel GMA950, which does not support TnL, and thus does not support FFXI.

So basically, I have two questions. One, does anyone have any actual experience running FFXI on a UMPC, and two, does anyone know of any UMPCs with Hardware TnL support?

EDIT: And doing more research, I see people that are running GMA950 saying it's fine for FFXI... which makes no sense. Anyone with experience on this?

Oh, and to anyone who is able to run Intel GMA 950, what kind of graphics performance do you usually get out of it? I'm not expecting anything amazing, but wondering what you can usually set your shadows and details at etc.

Did you have any troubles with it? Also, does TnL emulation software work for you?

Seems to work fine. I run FFXI at 1024x768 with most things turned on, I think I just turned off weather because it can't really handle dust storms.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

So it's power is probably comparable to my MX440... out of curiousity, how much does it score on the benchmark test? I know this is probably more CPU reliant than GPU, but still curious.

Haven't tried the benchmark, I might later.

Benchmark 3 on my MacBook. Low was around 3300, high was around 2400.
