I have successfully installed POL and FFXI on Vista. I know many people have been having problems with this, so I decided to create a little walk-through.
What you will need:
- A Vista Computer.
- An XP or 2000 Computer.
- A form of Media-storage that will contain at least 300MB of files. (Thumb Drive) Or a network capable of transferring that kind of data.
- Your Final Fantasy XI Installation Disks. (I have Vana'diel Collection 2007.)
Installation:
1st Step:
Put your FFXI/POL install disk into your Vista PC. You'll notice the install menu does not come up. Rather, the computer begins to install POL. Install POL to your computer. You'll notice that it won't allow you to install FFXI or any of the expansions.
2nd Step:
Go to your XP or Windows 2000 PC. Hopefully, you'll have FFXI already installed on this machine, if you do not have an XP or 2000 machine, I can not help you.
Go to Program Files, then to PlayOnline. Click on SquareEnix, and it will take you to a folder containing 3 folders. Copy "PlayOnline Viewer" to your Media-Storage Device.
3rd Step:
Take your Media-Storage Device and take the PlayOnline Viewer Folder and overwrite the one you installed on your Vista PC. This will let you open PlayOnline and start updating it.
Now, to install Final Fantasy and the expansions.
Step 1:
Put your Final Fantasy Install Disk in your Vista PC. You should get a menu that pops up. Select "Open folder to view files."
Step 2:
You will notice four folders, they are named INST, and have 1, 2, 3, and 4 after. These are where you get the installation for your games from.
INST1 - The Original Final Fantasy XI.
INST2 - Rize of the Zilart.
INST3 - Chains of Promathia.
INST4 - Treasures of Aht Urgan.
Click on INST1, this is what you want to install first.
Inside the folder you will see a few programs. What you will want to click on is "setup".
That is the setup.exe file. Once you click that, FFXI will begin to install on your computer.
Step 3:
Rinse and Repeat for all of your expansions.
Hopefully, now some of you can play FFXI on your Window's Vista PC.
