My 17" LCD managed to die on me recently, so I've been funded to get a new 22" LCD monitor for my computer.

I was wondering what the best option would be. I like the Asus, Samsung, Fujitsu, and Acer brands, but each seem to have at least one thing not so great about them (i.e. Asus has bad colouring, Samsung has bad backlight bleeding, etc). And I'm really not willing to buy a BenQ or Chimei.

I am really heading more towards Asus, seeing as I love the brand and the colouring might not be that bad really (trying to find a review that can actually explain what is wrong with the colouring, but they don't elaborate much). And it also has a very nice stylish design, with a fast respones (2ms compared to 5ms on the others). The contrast ratio is only 700:1 compared to most at 800:1 though.

Anyways, if anyone could help, I'd really appreciate it. And I would rather get a 23"-24" but they are just way too expensive at the moment, may as well just get an LCD TV for those prices!

      Re: Monitor

We sell LCD monitors where I work, and I would highly recommend Samsung. We sell a lot of their products and they've got decent quality for not too bad a price. I bought a 32" Samsung HDTV a few months ago after days of research on CNET, Amazon and other consumer feedback sites and they were the clear winner in terms of features, picture quality, and cost. I was limited to what we carried in stock at the store (wasn't about to throw away my employee discount), but they were the best in my price range. I picked up a samsung upconverting DVD player a month later because of how pleased I was with my TV and it's been a great setup so far.

Samsung monitors are pretty good, too, in my opinion. They've got good refresh times and contrast ratios...much better than most of the other stuff we carry. I mean, they don't touch the quality of the Apple Cinema Display, but I'm assuming you're not trying to spend $700 for a 23 inch (or $2,000 for the 30 inch, as amazing as that monitor is). Honestly, I don't really notice too much of a difference in refresh between monitors with 8ms or less response times, but we aren't really running anything taxing graphically-wise, so if you're big into FPS's or other similiarly fast paced games, this may or may not be as an important spec.

The Samsung 225BW is a nice 22" LCD with 5ms response time, 700:1 contrast ratio, for $399. My step-father bought one for his new computer setup and when I was over his house setting it up I have to say it looked fantastic.

And no, I don't work for Samsung...I just really like their stuff lately ^^

LG has an excellant display and good refresh time (4ms) . I got my 19" for 200 bucks.

Of course, this is second-hand information. Your best bet is to look at www.cnet.com , compare prices, and do your own research on specs. We can't do it for you.

          Thank you.

Trust me I have been looking up specs for the last few days and went in to look at some monitors (but all they had were BenQ and Chimei). I can't seem to look at a 22" because there are practically no stores that stock them. Usually have to order them in.

But yeah, thanks heaps. ^^ I think it's still a toss up between a 22" Dell, Asus or Samsung. Though I'm a bit worried about Dell, I don't usually like the stuff they produce, but I've been told it's an excellent monitor.

My friend has a 26" dell LCD, he is normally a fussy when it comes to picture quality etc. which is why its taken him4 years (and still going) to decide on what LCD TV to buy. However he is absolutley chuffed with his dell, good sound colour, decent refresh rater, he hasn't a single complaint about it.

              Re: Monitor

Well, I guess the question is whether I should get a 20.1" widescreen, which has a better panel. Or a 22" widescreen with a less quality panel but still pretty good. I don't have the money to go onto 23"-24" which seem to have the good panels that the 20.1" have.

So I'm pretty much stuck, unless I were to wait it out until the next gen 22" come in (which I can't, because I need a monitor now).

I really like the size of the 22", and I do a lot of graphic design/3d modeling/animation type stuff, so I'm not sure what the panels are like for that (like dpi and colour resolution).

              Confused! XD

Always go with the high quality display. There is also Apple's Cinema Display's if you hadn't considered them yet.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

                  Re: Monitor

                  Thanks for the help.

I finally narrowed it down to a Samsung 21" or 22" widescreen. Both have excellent quality, more specifically the 21" widescreen due to it not having a Chimei LCD panel (meaning there's 8bit colour, 1000:1 contrast, 8ms response (compared to 5ms, but how would you ever notice the difference?), and some excellent features including DVI and HDCP (I think that's it) for future proofing (I guess).

They're about the same price, 21" being probably a few more dollars. So I'm highly considering the 21".

If it weren't for the obvious backlight bleeding and black colour on the 22", I'd probably get that instead. But I'm very picky with that kind of stuff.

Anyways, tell me what you think.

                  Edit:

I guess I should display the specs (and note that Samsung do make high quality products).
