  • Internet Explorer 7 Released

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/...t/default.mspx

Download's right there. Now features improved security and tabs. Lamentably, standards support doesn't look that much improved.
Looks like this will keep Firefox on its toes.

And so at last the beast fell and the unbelievers rejoiced. But all was not lost, for from the ash rose a great bird. The bird gazed down upon the unbelievers and cast fire and thunder upon them. For the beast had been reborn with its strength renewed, and the followers of Mammon cowered in horror.

is it worth using over firefox?

So far I don't like it. But I'm really used to Firefox by now.

I do like that you can set it to open the same pages everytime you open IE, but other than that, its not that great. Option to view all tabs at once is neat, but not all that incredibly useful, I usually know what each tab is.
The top bar seems bigger than it is in firefox, may be my imagination, may be bigger from larger forward and back buttons that you seem unable to change in size. Jury is still out I suppose.
Just checked it, the toolbars are about a quarter of an inch bigger than they are with firefox. There may be a way to make it smaller with IE, but I haven't looked into it too much yet. Just giving first impressions.

That reminds me Firefox 2.0 RC3 (beta) came out yesterday. Sure some of the features are hit and miss but overall its working quite nice.

Also remember there is always Opera.

Oh yeah, I always forget to d/l Opera and check it out.
Unless IE 7 is just far and away better than firefox or Opera, I think I'll be leaving it by the wayside, if for no other reason than not wanting to use MS.
One thing I do wish IE7 had was some sort of skin option to change layout and make the buttons look less stupid. Basically I want everything streamlined and small to allow for greater webpage space in one screen.

                  Re: Internet Explorer 7 Released

To me IE7 is a giant step sideways. It provides the stuff I like in Firefox without actually being Firefox.

I kinda dig the UI of IE7 -- pretty much like I dig the UI in Safari.

I like IE7's quick tab feature -- it'll probably show up as an extension for Firefox next week.

IE7's RSS ... erm ... Feed handling is slicker. To bad I'm one of those luddites that doesn't really care about RS-mmm-Feeds.

I'll certainly do the upgrade on my Windows partition to IE7 --- just so I can be rid of IE6, but my default browser will remain Firefox -- if for no other reason that to provide me with a consistent browser between Linux, Mac, and Windows.

Doesn't hitting the F11 key do that in IE (full screen)
Bah ill upgrade mostly for security, and play around in IE7 a little.

*Edit err nm about upgrading WGA is needed.
And yes I'm using a legal (OEM) copy of windows I just didn't want to install WGA.

I'm just psyched for the new security. They've separated IE from the rest of the OS(like they should have done in the first place), so exploits should be a lot less severe.

Updated to IE7, already hate IE7.
And not installing the WGA turned out to be a non issue.
And that is all I'm going to say on that matter.

                              This didn't take long:

This isn't really something new -- it's a rehash of a problem known to be in IE 6 since April of this year.
