Buying a laptop

I need to buy a laptop for school. My budget is around 1500 dollars. I am looking for the best performance/battery life. It'd be nice if i could find one that could run games decently but its not required. any suggestions? Looking for Windows, not a mac.

You can't go both ways.

Sony Viao's and apple macbooks have good battery life and size, but performance/ price will never reach dell/hp/etc.

Your best bet in the equation is size. You can op to spend more money on a better battery(thus more battery life) at the cost of bigger sizes, like Dells and HPs.

Smaller brands like Acer, Leveno, etc, have similar equations, but with coming labor day, and holiday season, you can really cherry pick the Dell/HP deep discounts.

My cousin got a monsterous Dell laptop, for 1300, through a massive -$750 promo - 50 instant rebate -other stuff.
It was some crazy specs like 100wat battery, 17" ultra sharp, 2ghz core duo, 2gig ram, etc.

Only problem, it's big and loud, and heavy.
