  • Graphics Card Recommendation?

Hi all! I am thinking about upgrading my video card...but hesitating since I don't know whether it is really necessary to make ffxi look better. Here are the specs of my PC:

    ProcessorPentium® D Processor 820 with Dual Core Technology (2.80GHz, 800FSB)

    Memory1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz (2x512M)

    Graphics Card128MB PCI Expressâ„¢ x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon X300 SE HyperMemory

Please let me know whether a better card will really make a difference and which card would you recommend. If I'm going to upgrade, probably looking at the 100-200 price range...

    Thanks!!

This http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/gam...k.see.how.html will make your game look better. A better graphics card will just help so that you won't lag.

that being said, for <$200 there are many options you can go for. standard rec is the geforce 7600GT which is a very good card for mid-range/mainstream gaming and more than adequate to handle FFXI (even at suped up resolutions).

    Thanks Yyg!

$100-140ish ATI x850xt(PE) (last generation high end card's) or Nvidia 7600gs

        $140-170ish Nvidia 7600gt
recommended model (if you have the space for the cooler) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125025

        $200 ATI X1800xt
recommended err only model (Make sure your power supply can handle this one) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102007

The x1800xt is as (almost) powerful as a 7900gt and kicks ass in Oblivion for only 200 bucks.

And even tho it might (kinda) violate your warranty Arctic cooling and zalman make good quality and quite 3ed party coolers. (if things go to hell just put the stock cooler back on)

          Re: Graphics Card Recommendation?

Go for ATi since they use the 24 bit z-buffer or w/e the hell it is. It keeps textures where theyre supposed to be. nVidia cards have some problem with doing this and thats why youll end up seeing a players bandana popping thru his hair or someones hair clipping out of their hat or a big flag on a wall halfway sinking into the wall.

Not to mention the hundreds of white lines you see from terrain not clipping together properly.

BTW this is coming from a nVidia 6800GT owner who knows a 7900GT owner with the same probs. My next card will probably be ATi, even more so now that AMD and ATi have merged.

            Re: Graphics Card Recommendation?

Not sure how much difference a new card will make, but I'm running FFXI on a 7600GT, and it runs very well at 1680x1050 (w/ significantly increased rendering resolution). I haven't noticed the problems the above poster mentioned, but I also haven't been playing as long as they have.
