  • Processor question

Hey everyone my ps2 broke recently so im looking to get the computer version of FFXI. Not to sure if this computer can run it but im picking up a new video card today.

Anyway my question was if a AMD Athlon (tm) Processor 1.05GHZ can run the game?

    Re: Processor question

it might, but without more specs (RAM, video card) it's hard to say.

    Thanks Yyg!

I talked to him in IMs... he has the RAM and will (supposedly) be gettig a video card for it...

I looked up the info on the official site, but it shows nothing about AMD, so I wasn't sure about that. I think that's the only problem (if any) he'd have.

well, that's a pretty old processor -- it'll probably run, but don't expect blazing speeds (will probably have to stick with <800x600 for decent framerates).

        Thanks Yyg!

            Re: Processor question

The minimum processor speed they ask for is 800 MHz, AMD 1.05 GHz will run it just fine as long as the video card is a good one. He might have some slow down though if he goes to full resolution that the game allows, and regediting to increase beyond that isn't recommended.

My 3 strongest systems at home are all able to run the game. They have GForce Video Cards of Series 5,6, & 7 (5 series with 64MB Video RAM, other two with 256MB Video RAM). Processors are 1GHz, 2.3GHz, and 3GHz (All are AMD).

The system that has run the game the best out of those three is my personal system with the 2.3 GHz and Nvidia GeForce 7800. It doesn't pause or skip even in a Besiege with all the chaos happening there.

Also my 1GHz system it is able to run with the 1024x1024 without to much difficulty. Though if you do that you have to make sure that there is no video compression, with the video compression it can't handle that resolution.

More like any video card with more then 64 megs of vram.

1024x768 or higher will probably need 128 megs of vram.

I've tried ffxi on even lowly gforce2MX and even that works. And most of us know that ffxi makes very little use of the GPU.

Seems to make use of the GPU's when I see them ran in heavy zones. Just SE made some effective use of syncronizations keep some system ineffeciency out of effecting the game play.

My system with the GeForce 7800 loads objects better and far faster then the system with the GeForce 6 Series. They both are 256MB VRAM the 6 series in on a system with a 3GHz processor and 7 series on a 2.3GHz processor, seems to off been indicating that GPUs are used just not as something extreemly important.

However few seem to know that DirectX knows how to make use of hardware functions to use a GPU even when the game does not directly. Of course the game is going to work on a GeForce2 card, its above the minimum system requirements.

The 6000 series is problematic to ffxi.

Also to play on the 6000 series without the lag bug, you have to use old drivers which aren't that compatible with 6000series to begin with.

The 7000 series doesn't suffer that...well except the 7800GTX is also listed.

In terms of performance. Nex to no difference except going into a higher resolution then the GPU can handle

FFxi uses next to no special effects of GPU card.
