Let me know how the card fares Ael, kinda wanting to get a card just for FFXI, since ive grown weary of ATI cards for the game.. for some reason all the ATI cards ive used lag like hell when theres visual effects going on, never happened with Geforce cards... so im thinking about getting a geforce for some games and keep my ati x700 for less demaning games, so.. um.. let me know.

I haven't had any problems with my Radeon X800 XL. Anyway, FFXI does not have proper 3D acceleration and is very heavily processor based (thank you PS2). A new video card will do very little compared to a new processor.
With the ati cards try useing 3ed party moded drivers so you dont have to run the (piece of crap) Catalyst Control Center. It is just a memory hog and the interface sucks. And nvidia also seems to also want to change its interface to be more like ATI's CCC
I think upgradeing to a 7600gt (from a 6600) did help it run "alittle" smoother at times but does not help at cpu heavy times and slows down just as badly as my other 2 video cards did.
But installing a Zalman cooler did knock 10c of my videocards core tempature and makes alot less noise then that stock cooler. (and I had the copper moddel of the nvidia cooler on my card no less) just thought should point that out incase you have 20-30 dollars burning a hole in your pocket.
Anyway, I decided that I didn't want to be Elvaan for the rest of my FFXI career, so I opted to go Taru now before I ended up regretting it (since the jobs I really want to focus on are magey). It's not because Elvaan make bad mages or anything. I just wanted to play as a taru.
And no, I'm definitely on Bahamut. In Kirsteena's LS.
Thrasher: I'm going to check out that cooling unit. I think my PC could use it.
I know several really amazing Elvaan mages. I just didn't want to be one. Some folks are probably all like "but your progress!" to which I say, meh. It's just a game! I'm in no rush to get anywhere.
