Try fiddling with the settings like resolution and stuff if new drivers still don't work.

              Re: Troubleshooting graphic card...

The card is an ok video card for ffxi in fact I use a 6600. I hope you first Uninstalled the video drivers and then Reinstalled the newest drivers from Nvidia.

Now in game turning off effects helps like weather, shadows and effects for non-party PC's helps to keep the fps up. Limiting the amount of character models displayed along with the desperation settings like lowering the clipping plane and animation frame rate all help get some extra fps. The biggest fps killers for me are the effects like bard songs. All these changes are made in ffxi in the options menus, I hope the game becomes playable in those areas now.

how does it run without frps, since it seems that sometimes a system can not run both.

There are other ways to check the fps with the pc ver. A very well known 3ed party ffxi program also has that function w/o the overhead of running Frps in the background. And was the way they most likely checked there fps (Even tho guessing also is a possibility)

And about pointing out to uninstall the old gfx drivers before installing the new drivers is because it can affect performance when you just install one driver over the next one. And yes doing it the long way is annoying but it is overall better for your computer.

                    Re: Troubleshooting graphic card...

When installing a new video card NEVER use the drivers you get on the cd that comes with the new piece of hardware, instead do like me...
do a seach on the dev's website and get at least 3 of the latest versions of the newest drivers and use them startinbg from an older and work it to a newest version.
I did this and then tested my system after each instalation of the drivers and noticed a difference every driver installed, and my RAM seems to make a diference and works very well with new drivers. I found also that installing old drivers that in the box works BUT huge tweaks would be needed to get this to work, and old drivers work slower and most systems now do not support or demand better software and yes support is key
I have a nVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 with 256MB RAM
i installed it and had on hand 81.**, 83.** and 91.** drivers but the box camer with cds 41.** on it and BAH I would never switch back to those drivers, I even got lucky and nVIDIA released a new set of 93.** drivers 2 days after I installed it.
If a game of program called for those old driovres I would rather delete the software rather than installing old drivers, it just would be a bad idea to use them in the first place is all I mean...
old drivers are just a curtasy CD not intended for actual use, they probably are distributed with the GPU that is manufactured into the video card and I can't state enough probably not actually intened for consumer use.
