  • Comp won't load..

Well here's my problem.. Yesterday I was on my Dell and it was working fine It was on about all day from noon to 1 AM which is when I turned it off and went to sleep. So I wake up this morning and I turn it on to notice that on the first screen that appears, it doesn't load at all. It just stays there in that one spot and does not go anywhere. This has never happened before and I am completly clueless of what to do. Any replies would be greatly appriciated.

When you say the first screen do you meen the Dell flash screen before post or the Windows pong screen? If it passes post but stops at the Windows screen then most likely you have to many processes running. Try hitting F8 after post and go into safe mode and run any antispyware software you have then run a disk clean up and defrag. When its done reboot should go right into Windows.

It doesnt allow me to press F-anything. It's the one before windows XP loads. It's the very first screen that pops up for a dell. On that screen theres the Dell icon and it says various things such as www.dell.com.

Then you have hardware trouble. It could be one of two things 1 your harddrive could be bad or 2 your RAM could be shot. If you take the side off look and see if you have more then one stick of RAM if you do try taking one out and see if it boots up if it dosen't take that stick out try it with the other one. Also put your ear as close as you can to your hard drive if you hear a clicking sound then your drive is gone bad. Sorry I cant tell you more without looking at it if you have a warenty try calling Dell and parying.

So can you enter the Bios at all, or is it just stuck there? does it give any beep codes? If you can get into bios (the delete key is sometimes also used) then rest it 2 the defalt settings. In order 2 look into this any further you need 2 post the modelname and the modelnumber. like XPS/Dimension 200/515C as a example, also inspect the motherboard for anything out of the ordinary. well ill check back later

Uumm did you read the posts? Akapoko just said that it just sits at the DELL flash screen. If it just sits there hitting F1 or Delete wont do anything because it isn't passing post. Also if someone said that they have no clue what to do then most likely they have no idea what beep codes are thats whay I diden't ask about them.

I took out 1 stick of RAM and tried to run my comp agian. It did show the one screen as before but instead gave me a black screen with text.

Did it look like the old DOS screens? That may have been it trying to run through P.O.S.T the power-on-self-test. Also did it give you any warnings at that screen if so posting them would be helpful it would give me more info to work with. At this point if it did not go into Windows you may want to call Dell if you have a warenty.

Actually, I re-read one of your above posts to have seen that you told me to try removing 1 stick of RAM then the other. I just tried this and my computer works. Knew I shoulda tried that earlier, tisk tisk, stupid me. Thanks a lot for all the replies it really helped.
