  • Help meh D:

So i'm using a router as a gateway, connected to the modem. (or something of the sort)

The router is connected to 3 computers.. now.. how do i limit bandwitdh usage on those computers? my internet bill skyrocketed in the last month 'cos my sister is abusing the damn bandwitdh limits and i cant get it through her head!

Anyone have a clue on what i can do? im clueless when it comes to network management mumbo jumbo..

The Router is an X-micro wlan 11g broadband router

Find out what she's using that eats up so much bandwidth, figure out what ports that software uses, and block them at the router.

That will break her software, but that's what you want to do anyway right?

Shes using Kazaa! that's what shes using <.< the CANCER of the internet, it is!

How do i find out the port? and how exactly do i block it? Any way i could limit her, say, for like 3gb monthly or something?

        Re: Help meh D:

you wont be able to limit her to a certain amount of transfer. especially not on any consumer grade router. like icemage said, find the port for kazaa (google it and im sure it'll come up with a few ports), go into your router management page. There should be a section where it'll allow you to block those ports, enter the port numbers you found and that should prohibit her from downloading using kazaa (which IS the scourge of the internet).

I thought you could limit the amount of bandwidth going through the different connections on the back of the router through router config, i.e. LAN1 only gets this much but LAN2 can have that much.

Can't u do that using the Router Config?

i just looked thru my netgear wireless router and nada. i also have a linksys and also nada. im not sure about other routers but if you can limit traffic to a certain ip then great. both of my routers just have block ports and block websites features.

Wait... there is something I don't understand. You are getting charged per BANDWITH usage? What type of service do you have? That just sounds odd to me... :-P

most (all) consumer routers do not have such a feature PP. like everyone said above, just block the kaaza ports (1214).

no i am charged by monthy downloads, if i limited her bandwidth, she wouldnt suspect i cut her entirely, i'd leave her with like 36kb transfer -.- that would be so slow she wouldnt reach such big downloads so soon
