OK, so I'm playing ffxi and suddenly my graphics go haywire. It doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes it will happen shortly after I start playing, sometimes it happens a long time of playing, and sometimes it doesn't even happen at all no matter how long I've been playing. Any ideas what would cause this? I tried to update my driver, but I have the most recent driver for my video card. It's just a wimpy GeForce4 MX but I played for a long time with no problems at all, now for about the last month I've had the said problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Graphics go nuts
Sounds like what my son just went through. After exhausting all other possibilities, we replaced his card with one we had laying around and that was what the problem was. So if you happen to have an old video card laying about, pop her in and see what happens.Originally posted by FebaBut I mean I do not mind a good looking man so long as I do not have to view his penis.Originally posted by TaskmageGod I hate my periods. Re: Graphics go nuts
what exactly goes wrong?
ive had my graphics go scrambly on me, like the whole screen was going out of sync and everything turns into wiggle lines. that was due to my lcd dying.
mx isnt that great of a card but it should be more than enough to play fine.Omni@Remora: NIN75 RNG75 MNK75 COR75 BST64 BRD53

Re: Graphics go nuts
My old roomate had some sort of problem with his vid card. He would completely lose textures. He was a silhouette of a taru running around. Then (probably non-vidcard related) he could run to zone and run past where it would normally zone you, until he'd run into a black wall. Some pretty weird stuff.
Anyway, he got that Error guard p.o.s. (didn't do crap for my comp) and that cleared up a lot of his problems. (His pc was fairly new, and was built by a friend of his iirc.)I RNG 75 I WAR 37 I NIN 38 I SAM 50 I Woodworking 92+2

Re: Graphics go nuts
had asimilar problem with an old ati graphics card. i traced the problem back to a driver update issued by windows. when g/f updated windows she updated the graphic cards driver. that then screwed up everything.
so question is. have you updated driver in the last month? sometimes update 4 works better then updates 5-6. or so was the case with my old computer.
other then that, it could be a simple fact your card is showing signs that its on its last leg.

If your PC is under warranty then you could have it repaired. If this was scratch built or your card a standalone purchase, you should go seek a replacement. Unfortunately, unless you have the skills and tools, you're not able to narrow down your problem in a scratch built PC. If you have friends who can diagnose the problems for you, then have them take a look at it. I wouldn't take your PC to CompUSA or any other retail places because it gets expensive to run diagnostics (Plus they almost always screw up something else and then you're screwed)

whatever happened to replacing stuff because it became to out of date? now it seems like i replace items just when warranties are up.
