  • Internet Explorer vs Mozilla Question

    Hello

Recently I ran across a program named Mozilla. My friends all say that it is vastly superior to Internet Explorer. My question is why? They just say "It's just better" and that doesn't exactly answer my question. Also what is this Firetune thing?

I'm sorry if this seems like a worthless post, but you guys have always been nice enough to answer all my dumb questions so another one shouldn't hurt right? ^^

    Thanks again

Re: Internet Explorer vs Mozilla Question

    I use mozilla firefox

i like it do to it saves your user info and its not in a open file were outside ppl can see it, its ez on the cookies you can scan the cookies and delete the ones you don't need. It has a popup block. and if you need to open more then one window you and open it in a tab that way you can see read on as the new tab is loading the page, and last it tells you when there is a update.

but there is some down side to firefox there are some web sites you need to use IE, don't know how come but there are some sites you have to use IE

Re: Internet Explorer vs Mozilla Question

      It's called Firefox http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox

      1. it doesn't have the gaping security holes that IE does
      2. security problems are patched relatively quickly if discovered
      3. it has tab browsing so you don't have to have a gazillon windows on your desktop
      4. it's FAST
      5. all kinds of nifty plugins like ad blocking, weather, FFXI clock
      6. if you don't use it, you're square

      Thanks Yyg!

Re: Internet Explorer vs Mozilla Question

Theres an FFXI clock plugin for this thing?! WHERE!? O_O

But that being said..it IS vastly superior to IE, the only thing IE beats out FireFox in some way is more plug-ins and stuff like that, but theres always people developing more add-ons to counter that.

I only use firefox these days except when checking e-mails at hot mail.

pretty much the only con that firefox has to iexplorer is that more sites are compatible with iexplorer than firefox... yet it's rare nowadays (plus you can always just get the IEView extension!). other than that, firefox is superior in any other way.

                To simply put it....

Firefox has less security holes than IE.
If a file wants to be downloaded, it doesn't just downloads it, it asks you first, unlike IE, very usefull if someone tried to download a virus onto your machine without you knowing it, as a box will pop up saying do you want to download this file, and you say, I didn't ask to download anything, so you can click NO!!, unlike IE where you'll be hoping your virus software (if you have it) can cope with the latest virus it just has downloaded!!
As said before, quick, tab browsing, pluggins, skins etc. and a good download manager. If you don't want to use mozilla then if your on a mac, always use safari and if not another good browser is Opera, my mate uses this and mozilla, Opera has more skins and thats about it really from using both opera and mozilla, I always use mozilla even on my mac at work.

Re: Internet Explorer vs Mozilla Question

It's call mozilla if you're using the Suite...or more or less Mozilla foundation is the name of the organization.

Mozilla = netscape-esque all in one, e-mail, usernet, editor, etc. Not surpurising since it was netscape after it got killed by IE, and opensourced it.

Then they took that and made firefox, and thunderbird...bascially web browers only and e-mail client.

They have many of the same roots, and similar speeds/features/security. firefox might be a bit faster and less memory hog by being more lightweight.

But, using firefox and Mozilla is almost the same, and picking either or is not a problem.

It's not the best thing to say using firefox is good because it's not by microsoft...but in a way...that's the case. A lot of IE's problems are compounded because it's linked so closely with windows, and other microsoft products.

Security-wize, no matter which propoganda you believe, Firefox gets off easier because of above "not by microsoft". A breach in security is a lot rarer when they'res not much to steal.

IMO firefox has a smarter pop up/ad blocker. Instead of I.E's(SP2) "block everything and sort it out later" mentality, mozilla/firefox tries to block it smartly.

Firefox also has a nifty skill chain calculator extension. I've been using it for quite a long time and it's a really easy no fuss way to figure out renkei. It's from the same people that make the ffxi clock for firefox. http://ffxi.xenoveritas.org/tools/sk...ns/index.shtml

Wow, I'm very impressed. I'll get to downloading it ^^

BTW, What is Firetune v1.0.8? My friends told me if I'm going to use Firefox then I need to install that as well. Once again they left me with the answer "Just do it". I kind of like explanations though ^^ Thanks again for the help

                          Info on Firetune here: http://www.totalidea.com/freestuff4.htm

Seems to be an optimization program that helps Firefox run faster and more efficiently.
