I've recently had strong urges to buy a new computer and here's what i could come up with for my price range (i've ommitted all non-performance related items).
- Intel D955XBK Socket775 i955X Chipset 1066Mhz 2PCI-E/3PCI/4DDR2 w/Sound SATA Raid IEEE 1394 GB-LAN USB 2.0
- Intel® Pentium® P4 530J 3.0GHz - 800MHz FSB Retail (1MB Cache)
- 1GB DDR2 533Mhz (Kingston KVR533D2N4/1G)
- Asus EN6600GT/TD128 GeForce PCX-6600GT 128MB PCI-E w/TV & DVI Retail
- Western Digital Raptor 36GB SATA 10,000rpm 8MB 5.2MS HDD
Just wanted to know what kind of performance in FFXI I can expect out of that. I'm currently running an athlon xp 2200+ with a radeon 9600xt vid card and a gig of ram. It can be extremely choppy in FFXI at 1024x1024 mode, and I refuse to play at 512x512.

Eventually I think I'll need a 7800 in there but they're a bit too expensive right now. I'm going to spend a lot on the motherboard so when the prices come down a bit i'll have the option of picking some better stuff up. That mobo can handle all the way up to the brand new intel extreme dual core with HT, and if I had the $1300 CDN to handle the price tag I'd own one.
