  • Slow downs

Whenever I'm near the auction house and there are a lot of people around my framerate slows down to about 12fps. Does anyone know what on my system is causing this slowdown and what I need to replace to fix it.

    Re: Slow downs

Apparently ffxi relies alot on processor speed, try boosting it to 4ghz or something, im pretty illiterate about these things though

or instead of trying to overclock

try going to the config in game when you know you are about to go to the auction house there is a ingame setting to set the number of actually character models that will be show to be lower on PC version. i find this to be really helpful. also when ever i go to the AC i will i go into first person and look at the auction window the way not many character models are on screen. i also have a fairly powerful system and find that ffxi runs slow at times.

        Re: Slow downs

Lowering the number of models shown doesn't really help anything. And overclocking to 4ghz would turn the inside of my computer into a miniture sun.

          Re: Slow downs

that's a fine PC there, should really have that much of a problem with being near the AH... wierd.

          some suggestions:
make sure your nforce drivers are up to date.
make sure your radeon drivers are up to date.
defrag the harddrive - and if you have an extra HDD, try installing it on the secondary IDE channel and putting your pagefile on that.

          Thanks Yyg!

            Re: Slow downs

hmm I should invest in another hard drive anyway. I recently defraged my computer so that's not it. Although it only has 1 200gb hdd in it at the moment. All my drivers are up to date. I'm doing a reinstall of windows when I get home and going to install everything fresh. Hopefully this helps a bit.

Would it help at all to creat a seperate partition for my OS.

              Re: Slow downs

              i wouldn't think it would

usually because NTFS is such a better filing system then FAT32 its usually effecient enough with out having to have a seperate partition.
however i could always be wrong

                Re: Slow downs

I would think the system could handle the game without a flaw so there much be a configuration error somewhere.

                  Re: Slow downs

i really just think it is how the game is. the only places i ever lag in on qufim when there are like 30 gorups at the tower or when i am at lower jeuno auction house long enough to let all the models load

                    Re: Slow downs

seperate OS and game partition would not really do anything since they are on the same HDD. if they were on different IDE channels (and HDD) than yes it might help.

                    Thanks Yyg!

                        Re: Slow downs

I'll look into getting another hard drive to help proformance and I could always use more space. Anything else that could help out a bit besides hard drive. I know the hard drive can't be making it slow down by half. Also if i turn off the shadows and weather affects the framerate goes up.

                          LOL

I don't see why your having such an issue. My computer is comparable to yours and I do not have this issue. Did you make sure that your not running torrents or other processes at the same time? I know if I run more than 4 torrents while playing FFXI I see some lag in some areas. But my husand and son will experience it much more than I. Something I do too is to reconnect both my modem and router before I start playing FFXI. Some people call it a obsessive compulsive thing but maybe that would help you. LOL
