Touble with ffxi on new system.

Does anyone know why FFXI seems to have a really low framerate on my new system. I just built it and the system itself seem to be running perfect.

2.66ghz Celeron D (Prescott)
256DDR400 PC3200
GeForce 2 MX/MX 400
40gb HDD
If more info is needed to determin problem I can send my DxDiag file.

I am getting a GeForce 3 ti 200 and another 256 stick of ram in the mail soon, I am hoping that with these 2 changes I might noticed a drastic increase in speed but I doubt I'll get that lucky.

If anyone has any tips or suggestions that would be great.

it's your (lack of) RAM and video card. you really should be aiming for 512MB RAM minimum nowadays.

chuck the geforce 2 MX and skip the geforce 3 TI200. If you are on a budget, go for the Radeon 9600pro. You can find most for <$100. If you have a little more to spend, look at either the Radeon 9800pro or Geforce 6600GT.

Your processor and your video card are a huge bottleneck in your performance. A GF3 might help out a little bit but it will still be kind of lagg-ish. The best thing I can think of is make sure you have up-to-date drivers for your video card and directx. Also, if you can change the graphic settings for your video card, select the lowest values for thinks like AA and AF, vertical synching, etc. I can’t picture the control panel of a GFMX2 but I’m sure there might be some options there like what I described. This also should help out a little. Your ram is more than enough though (once you get the other 256mb)~

meh, processor isn't so bad TBoTB. I run a Athlon XP1800 on my wife's computer (but she has a Geforce 4 in there).

Isn’t the 2.2 Celeron equivalent to about a p4 1.8g? I'm not saying that its bad though.

Yea, I'm going to Agree eith the rest, your ram and your vid card are your bottle necks here.

What'd you get on the benchmark?

Got about a 1400 on low res. I got about 58 bucks to spend on a new card. Any suggestions?

ouch, that doesn't leave many options.

This should be pretty good. You can also overclock it (with the right tools) to 9600 speeds.

should really get some more RAM though.

Dang. I tried to find a better card for cheap but all I found was a 5900 for $80 but it was pci express.

After more searching I did find a Refurbished - SAPPHIRE Radeon 9800 128MB DDR AGP OEM (note: it's not a SE or gimped version) for $75. http://www.pricewatch.com/ shows similar deals for non-refurbished cards of that class.

For any decent video, you ought to bench better than that... I can get almost 2000 at high res on my budget system. I'd say, make sure you have the right motherboard chipset drivers installed so you get full AGP support, I scored pretty low before that since I only got 1x AGP, but w/ the drivers I get 4x AGP and it performs nicely. Radeon 8500 LE on a 1.3GHz Athlon w/ 256MB, BTW.

This new AMD64 system benches at 6500 on high.
