popups are ruining my game

I've ran almost every type of popup blocker I can find, they all block the popup, but instead of blocking it so it doesnt even open all it does is redirects it to my homepage (google.com). So everytime a popup comes up FFXI CRASHES back to playonline viewer, it's been doing this over and over and over again the last 3 hours, a lot of the time the blocker doesnt even get everything and theres still random windows coming up.

What can I do? Is there anyway I can just 'shut off' explorer while I game without doing any damage? This sucks really bad I can't play for more then 2 minutes at a time without heading back to desktop, can I play in a window or enable the game -not to shut down when I go back to desktop?

i use norton internet security... you have to configure it to let certain programs access the internet (i.e msn messenger, ffxi, and so forth) but it prevents any popups from comin up at all. i love it, deffinetly check it out

You also need to download some spyware programs. Sounds like something's living on your comp.

Here is Ad-Aware.
Here is another ad/spybot scanner, Spybot - Search & Destroy.
(They pretty much cover eachother's backs.)

Here is a free online virus scanner, by Trend Micro, that caught more than my expensive Norton did. Here is another, by Panda Software.
(Both seem to do pretty well, though the Panda one seems to load faster.)

If, after all that (and run each of them at least twice, with a restart between), it isn't working... then it's time to give a call to your tech support.
