Error: 9000 "Fullscreen Mode Was Lost (-1)"

I've had FFXI for about 2 months and since I have gotten it the game has begun to crash down to POL. I get an error that says "Fullscreen Mode Was Lost (-1)". At first it did it only every two hours or so, but it has started to become more and more frequent to the point where it now does it consistently 4 or 5 minutes after logging on.

I have tried doing a selective start-up to see if something was popping up and causing it to close but that hasn't seemed to work. I also downloaded the most recent driver for my graphics card. The thing I don't understand is why it didn't do it to begin with and has gotten so much worse.

If anyone knows what I can do to fix this problem it would be greatly appreciated

some things you should do to fix this very simple problem
[list=1][*]check your computer with adaware to see if you have adware or spyware, these cause popups frequently[*]close all instant messaging programs and internet windows, there may be a timer on it (yahoo refreshes every min or so, causing an ad to show again, some which switch focus to themselves) or ads (as in AIM)[*]DON'T PRESS THE WINDOWS KEY OR ANY OTHER COMBINATION THAT OPENS A WINDOW (Ctrl+Esc, hoykeys, Alt + Tab)[*]if all else fails, ask tech assistance at SE for help, or view their FAQs[/list=1]
