Unmountable boot

omg my pc is broke :mad: :mad: :mad:

when i boot it loads the G.card then CPU/motherbaord then SATA HDD and DDR but then when it gets to loading windows XP pro is comes up with a "blue screen of death"

Ouch...that's rough.
If nothing's working after several attempts at booting up your system, I'd say that the bootup files are screwed. You're probably going to have to reload WinXP if anything. :sweat:

I assume you are using a UDMA hard disk controller,

~sometimes your input/output system (bIOS) settings are configured to force the faster UDMA modes.


~using a 40-wire connector cable to connect the UDMA drive to the controller instead of the required 80-wire, 40-pin cable.

Also it could be a corrupted file system.

If your computer uses a UDMA hard disk controller,
Replace the 40wire cable with an 80wire UDMA cable.

OR

In the BIOS settings for your computer, load the 'Fail-Safe' default settings, and then reactivate the most frequently used options such as USB Support.

Other than that you can try to repair your file system. Restart the computer to the Recovery Console, and then use the chkdsk /r command to repair the volume. ^^


Just incase you do not know here is how you do it.

Start your computer with the Windows startup disks, or with the Windows CD-ROM if your computer can start from the CD-ROM drive.
When the Welcome to Setup screen appears, press R to select the repair option.

bty wat is a UDMA? all i know is that i have a SATA 160G 7000rpm HDD

I assume your Sata HD is of course connected to the sata "0" slot, OR the first slot ( sometimes they use a "1" or a "0" as the first slot. Secondwhat type of motherboard do you have?

you may have screwed some settings having to do with raid....

btw there are two sata ports "0" and "1", my drive is in "0"

yes i have sorted it but i am now using a crappy IDE 120gig HDD, i think the SATA one is broke :mad:

Its a problem with windows XP. It happened to my old HP computer, they sent me a floppy disk, popped it in, ran the program, bam, it was fixed. It happens when you shut down by using the power button instead of the windows shutdown one too many times.
