  • Internet Connection not showing...

    I'm having a problem...

Unfortuantly I'm currently on dial up (56k) ...

And as of about an hour ago, I was lettin a friend use the comptuer when I asked him to "Disconnect" when he was done (By selecting the two lil computers in the top right and right click them and "Disconnect")

He told me there were no two blinking computers.

I walked over and looked, and damnit, he was right. I checked my Network Connections and realized there was no dial up connection showing, yet we were online. I picked up the phone and turned it on to hear that irritating screeching of the internet.

Hm...well I've been fooling around for the past hour trying to get my internet connection to show up and I'm having no luck whatsoever. I couldnt disconnect so I had to restart my computer to disconnect. I keep having to do this in order to disconnect from my connection! It's driving me insane! I clicked on my "Dial Up" program while connected and while connected I would usually get the option to disconnect, but since this has happened even while I'm connected and I click on the "Dial Up" Program again after I have succesfully connected, it just goes to the "Dial Up" screen ...yet i'm already online!

This is really frustrating me and I would highly appreciate any help from anybody. Thanks alot to those who help me and I hope this doesnt happent o anyone else because it's annoying as hell to have to turn your computer off to disconnect from the net...

you dont have to restart. what OS are you running, and unplug the line from the modem would disconnect you too. if u run XP u can make a property that says "show in systray when connected" its like right click on the icon of connection > properties > check the box . later

better yet, if you can afford it, get yourself BB in some way shape or form (if you use aol, cheap dsl starts at just under $10 a month more than what you are currently paying), this will bring some headackes, but it'll fix more than it causes... besides, BB is always on and much faster

Thanks for the input but so far none of that has helped. And the reason I dont have BB is because I'm gettin highspeed comcast set up. It's what I use to have but I just moved here and currently can't afford a Router and the network adapters for hte other comptuers in the house, not for another two weeks atleast.

So I guess i'll just stick it out for now. Thanks for the help everyone.

              I had this same problem..
It would go "Dailing..." > "Verifing user name and password" > "Resistering computer to network" then disappear and wouldn't show it connected or not... but I would be connected. I suggest you reformat your PC >< yes I know the pain of updating everything again but at least you won't have to put up with it anymore. I think it is a virus or something... because it just started happening all of a sudden...

I doubt it is a virus. As for going to Broadband (Yes, Please!). The problem you suggest with your Connection Icon not showing up in your SYSTRAY is easy.

This really depends on what version of windows you have but goto your network and or dial up connections. Highlight the connection ICON ( It could be the name of your ISP or the phone number ect ect) Right click and press "Properties". Then at the bottom or some where there should be a CHECK box which says something to the tune of "Show Icon notification area when connected".

IF that box is not checked do so. That should solve the problem if I read it correctly.
