ATI Vs Geforce FX

as some of you already no i have a Gefoce FX 5600XT - APG 8x 256mb wigh DVI. To me that sounds really good but i have been told by a few people off here that it is poo.

so i am thinking of buying this card...

RADEON 9800 Pro Sapphire 128meg

would this ATI card be much better then my geforce, and how much better?

just wait about 3 weeks or so, then grab the 9800s when they get a reduced price due to X800 being sold at 9800 prices... then you can either get a X800 if you have money, or 9800 if you don't

yer i know the 9800 pro is going down to £150 in the uk soon

This is a no-brainer 9800Pro all the way!

A common marketing tactic that video card manufacturers use is to increase memory size on low-mid end cards. The common buyer that lacks knowledge will think that a 256MB card will always be faster than a 128MB card. What many don't realize is that the extra memory (256MB for example) is only used in extremely high resolutions with very high AA/AF modes - for example 1600x1200 w/ 4xAA/8xAF+.......a feat that these video cards are incapable of doing without running a slideshow. At playable resolutions, the additional memory is completely useless.

In addition, manufacturers will often use SLOWER memory to offset the cost of the additional memory on budget video cards such as the 5200/5600 or 9200/9600 line.

Its safe to say that 256MB of vid ram on anything less than ATI's 9800Pro/XT,X800Pro/XT, and nVidias 5900/6800 lines is a waste.
